That was fun!  I don't have the patience / skill to point rack as much as some of you masters

But, I'm pretty sure that I win for worst death!  Seriously, I was just screwing around on the floating log in 3-5 (after the level is done), and died in the pit!  Literally right here:

I'm decent at SMB3 but the whole one life thing doesn't mix well with my carelessness

Thanks to Andy for some tips on the first two levels. Definitely helped me build some points early on. I'm amazed at some of you guys' abilities.

While it's fun to see people submit scores early in the week, I don't think I'd ever feel like I had a solid lead until Saturday or Sunday  (except for Rollerball )

Oh definitely Nathan - but I thought my score would at least hold up for a few hours.

Waking up to skinny and Krunch's scores was like being robbed while I slept!

It's looking like cracking the top 10 this week might require a score of at least 1 million.

Gave it a go last night but didn't have a lot of time. Will try again tonight for real.

Edit: The option to change the size of the picture is broken.

I'm pretty sure you're right. It seems like the tenth place score in the 2013 contest under the same rules was 1.5 million. I had a 780k score last night and didn't even bother taking a picture.

Man this is tough. I've only given it 3 attempts so far but just cracking 200k for participation is proving difficult for me.

Read Dr Robbie's pace from the other thread.

400k+ comes from Level 1-1.

Another nearly 200k from Level 1-2 is possible.

Yeah, I try doing all that fancy bouncing off enemies stuff...I just die. I bet I did that for 2 hours last night. I think I was doing better just playing the game straight through.

I had never tried to point stack in a competition before. Once I heard of the tecnique via this thread, I tried it with great results. However, one thing I noticed watching your video. In 1-1, the 3 turtles always reappear for you. One always disappears for me and does not return. What's up with that? It sounds like a version bug.

Hmm I could not tell you.  Maybe trying cleaning the game more.  I have had many smb  carts and never had this issue

This happens to me too.
When going back, only 2 appear.
Every time.

Also, if I knock a shell into another one - that one doesn't come back either.

Weird.
