Should be an interesting auction, this one has been around the community for a long while.  Thoughts on possible sale price?

It's obviously rare, but it looks absolutely terrible. I'm curious about the price as well. I'll put it in my watch list, but I couldn't even afford the opening bid.

Step 1.) Make a reproduction label (mark it as reproduction, everyone will know it's fake anyway)

Step 2.) Take a crappy NES game, remove label.

Step 3.) Cut hole in cart case for DIP Switches

Step 4.) Apply Label.

Step 5.) Insert NWC board in reproduction case

Step 6.) Keep ugly "MARIO" NWC cart hidden SAFELY somewhere.

Step 7.) Congratulations, you own a real NWC for about 50% - 60% of the normal cost!

...

This is a deal and a half believe it or not.

-------------------------

Got any of these for sale? Sell them to me. I also buy other NES Publisher inserts, and even GB/GBC, and SNES inserts too.

I love this cart, and wouldn't touch it. The "Mario" is what makes this copy special to me and it's a legend in the NWC family. I wouldn't be surprised to see it fetch the majority of the price any other NWC goes for.

In all honesty I'm surprised someone bid $5k. GL with the sale, just not something that would interest me at all.

yeah I agree with jone here - and as cool as it is, i wouldn't buy a torn up label NWC.

I think the opening bid was the biggest hurdle this one faced. Now that it's set to sell, any guesses on end price?

The only serious offers I was getting on mine when I listed last year were around $8k, but I thought they were far too low with how infrequently these change hands. I'm gonna go with $6,200 on this one.

How far did the "Mario NWC" story reach outside of us? By "us" I mean the relatively well-studied collector folks.

I could see a lot of people who don't know the full story thinking it's fake or that there's something fishy.

But then again, are those people even in the market for this cart?

$6,500 seems like the magic number to me. I don't see this fetching actual price given the fact that there's no label -or- at the very least a serial number.

I don't see those bids being valid, unless having the crappy one is a really big bragging point

Weird history for the bidder.  Over 300 bids on gaming items over the last 30 days, all with a bunch of different sellers, but just a single feedback.  I doubt their legit bids as well, but I guess stranger things have happened.

I doubt the validity too, but if they're auto bids, I wonder if it's 2 illegitimate buyers or someone trying to actually bid.

Just because it's Muresan, I'd be floored if it was shill bidding.  Much more likely that it's an idiot that doesn't plan on paying.

Yeah, I def should have worded that differently.  You are probably right, it's more likely a troll bidding it up for "fun".

I'm def interesting in a NWC at some point, but I would never go for something in that condition.   I think 5-6 grand would be pushing it.

My vote is probably troll bidding as well.

Why do people do this?

A combination of jealousy, ignorance, blind hatred, or just old fashion adolescent and mischeivous behaviour that's encouraged by other people who commit and exhibit such behaviour.

Let's called it the "4chan" effect.

Edit: also, many of the people who do these sort of things see this as their perverse view of "Justice" since "these prices are killing the hobby"
