Hello everyone and welcome to week two of the 2014 Weekly Contests.  As is now customary with the Weekly Contests, the new competition will run concurrently with the current one until 11 PM Sunday night.  So, if you're tired of playing Super Mario (and that competition has been excellent so far with tons of submissions, and more than likely, tons more will filter in by 11), come give the new game a try.  This week's game is going to be Marble Madness.  Here are the rules:

  • One player only
  • Use whichever control style you prefer
  • Take your picture when you get a Game Over, or if you score high enough, on the High Score screen
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Arcade

The contest ends Sunday, 2/16/14 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

See the results of the Super Mario Bros. contest here:

Using a NES advantage is fine, correct? You just can't use the turbo (on games that it would do anything), right?

Question and suggests

Is there a thread where we could recommend future contest games?

If it's not to much trouble would you be able to start linking the previous weeks contest so we can see results? And last year the score board part of the original post, will that be the case again this year Kevin?

Try the weekly contest sticky (the main one, not the game threads).  I would say that's the best place for recommendations.  They may not make it until next year, but they do get taken under advisement.  I suggested The Punisher last year, for example, and it's one of the ones in this year's contest

But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

I love this game but personally don't think it was a good contest game because of the randomness of the magic wands and how they can greatly effect your score.

The game takes 5 minutes to beat, I think the randomness of the wand simply add a little luck factor in the pot. Once you've done your absolute best game without wands, then you'll want to retry and get lucky with the wand. First thing you'll notice is when you get the luckiest wands, you'll be more stressed and it will be harder to perform your flawless run.

My best score so far is only around 20K. I'll probably play a bit more later this week and see how I do, but I'm probably just gunning for participation. Not really a fan of this one.

I'm just glad to see you and lots of other new faces in here. I'll keep plugging away at this game, but I don't see a top ten placing in my future unless I just really get the hang of it. We'll see.

The only top 10 I see is The Punisher (more like top 3)...but I'll keep playing for sure...cuz you never know

You can either post suggestions in the Leaderboard thread or PM them to me.

I can also put the link to the previous week's contest in the new contest threads so everyone can see how they did the week before.

I would like to do a score board like I have in the past, but sometimes I don't have time to update one consistently or every day due to my work schedule and other projects I'm working on.  Krunch has started one for Marble Madness this week which is cool.  If someone is interested in helping out with that on a weekly basis, send me a PM so we can work out arrangements.  If someone is interested in keeping track of the scores as the week goes on, it would be a big help since I tally scores on Sundays, work on the Leaderboard, create rules for contests, and a lot of other things for the contests.  Needless to say, I work on a lot of stuff for the contests every week
