If you already own the original consoles and have them all hooked up, say, downstairs, ain't nothing wrong with owning a Retron 5 or Retro Freak (They are pretty much the same thing OMAHGAWD) or a RetroPi or an emulator box hooked up to a TV for upstairs fun.

Yeah, about the only difference between the Retron 5 and Retro Freak is the RF lacks NES (but has Famicom) and the R5 lacks PC-Engine/Turbo. Maybe a couple other differences.

Thanks Tulpa. Sounds like it's a matter of nomenclature, although like most of us I just want a good working HD system
Speaking of which, does anyone know if it's possible to get an HD SNES system?

Retron 5/Retro Freak.

SNES + framemeister (get one quick, they're stopping production)

Wait for a SNOAC clone to get HDMI (GamerzTek added HDMI to one of their NES clones.)

I've heard many speak of the framemeister. Considering the price (hundreds of dollars) is it worth it? I know that's a bit subjective, but what do people say in general? Are there HD SNES clones in the works? Not sure what SNOAC is? Thanks.

SNOAC = Super Nintendo on a chip. There are a number of SNES clones (Retro Bit Retro Duo/Trio, Retron 2/3, GamerzTek 16-Bit clone, Yobo FC-Twin), but AFAIK, they're all composite/S-video out. Gamerztek just released an NES clone with HDMI (on the heels of a Famicom clone that did the same about a month ago), so I would suspect they've looked into doing an SNES clone. It's still the cheap system-on-a-chip clones they tend to make, though.

I've never used a Framemeister, so I can't really comment on its worth.

I had a Retron 3.  It smelled like cheap Chinese ( like a shower curtain). It had the inputs mapped incorrectly.  I forgot which ones but I remember the controller ports where backwards.  The controllers were complete trash.  Games sounded off and the colors not correct either.   It's like nobody did QA on the unit.

In the end, the Retron 3 just made me want the real consoles.

With that said I recently bought a AVS and I think it's great.
