From December to April I was hooked on World of Warcraft. I remember I didn't leave my room for two days because of it the first days in my trial account. I recently canceled my subscription and was wondering if anybody here played WoW and would like to share some experiences.

I never played WoW, but all my friends did. Some of them had a pretty hard time quitting. Personally I don't know why anyone would considering Contra is a freely available video game, but congrats anyways.

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

I had a friend literally flunk out of college due to WoW. He was the top of his realm for awhile, but it's sure hard for him to get a job now .

I have some friends that sucked me into it. I played it for a bit but I don't think I have the addictive personality that the design of the game preys upon. I could take it or leave it and got bored easily. I have buddies that will create new characters and level them up to 20 or so before deciding they don't like them and start another one. Its crazy how into it some people get, but then again, if its a Zelda game or sports game I'm usually the same way.

I'm into runescape too. Or, well, I was. Started 8 or 9 years ago, back in RS Classic. I really loved it up until around 2007, it's gone downhill since then in my opinion. I was never really hardcore about it though, I played off and on. Going to college soon so I canceled my membership. I've never played WOW, but I was never into PVP in Runescape, I just liked doing quests and maxing out skills.

Yeah.  There were a few weeks where I played for over 10 hours a day, but a lot of the time I played was spent doing afkable skills.  I got 99 woodcutting back in 2007 while doing my homework every day .  I'll never "quit" either, like, giving my account away or anything.  I have mixed opinions about the updates.  I've always been against real world trading and botting as I think it ruins the competitive aspect and diminishes others' accomplishments.. but I've got over that, it's never going away.  I used to support Jagex in almost all of their decisions, because I agreed with them.. but once Runescape really started taking off they became money-hungry and stopped caring about the players as much.

Like I said, I never played WOW, but I bet I would have liked it.  I love blowing time on RPGs, although admittedly a lot of time on RS was spent in the background while I did something else like watched TV or read articles online.  Once I started programming I became more interested in the mechanics of the game, and wanted to create my own, rather than playing runescape for the sake of playing it.

Way back when, I want to say Summer 2007 I quit after playing for two years. Was an awesome game, had to leave a sweet guild, but it was time to move on in life. Took down C'Thun and made it to Lt. General for the sweet war raptor.

I was hooked on EverQuest for four years.

Never played, but have seen friends get sucked into playing this game for hours on end, everyday. Funny, anybody ever seen that "South Park" episode about this game?? Hilarious!

I played for a few years. Also played EverQuest for a few years. I don't see anything wrong with playing, as long as you don't let it consume your life. It's more constructive than watching TV for an hour or two a day.

I played heavily for four years. I was in one of the top guilds in the US. I played on average 6-7 hours on the weekdays and 12 hours on the weekends. If there was new content out forget those hours and we would spend entire weekends trying to down new bosses and get achievments. I started playing WOW after my friend showed it to me my first year of grad school. I was addicted right off the bat. Started heavy raiding in BT and finally stoped after downing everything in Uldar. The game got way to easy and too casual. It was a very fun 4 years, but I would like my 4 years of my life back, and also all of those A's I should have gotten in Grad school. Playing WoW in Grad school makes for a very interesting 4 years...

WoW comes and goes like the wind. New expansion comes out, everyone picks it back up and plays for awhile. Gets old an boring and people quit. New patch comes out with some new content, people come back and play some more. People complain that WoW is too easy now vs Vanilla (it is), everyone quits again. Year goes by with people hating on WoW. New expansion comes out, repeat process above.

I used to play a text based mud called ICE. It was way more expensive than WOW, you got like 8 hours / month with a subscription then they charged up the wazoo every hour beyond that.
I played quite a bit, but my brother blew so much money on that game its hilarious to think about now.

I miss that game. It was awesome.

Never played WoW, but in high school, I was hooked on an old real-time strategy game called Myth: The Fallen Lords. Almost every waking minute I had went into that game, and it pretty well sucked a whole year of my life away before I called it quits. There was a great documentary on TV last year called "My Gaming Addiction" which profiled other gamers hooked on MMORPGs, and the comparisons were startling; it was almost like I could see a little bit of myself in each of them. It was definitely one of the best and worst periods of my life, all things considered.

I played non-stop with my roommates when it first came out. They canceled their accounts but I kept playing for about 4 months until I got my Mage to level 60 (level cap at the time). Then I canceled. I can't even imagine how much of my social life that game sucked up.

I never got into any MMO's - I can't justify playing a game that has no definitive ending. Throw Diablo 1 or 2 in front of me, I'll play for hours (and I'm assuming the same will hold true with Diablo 3). I knew people who use to play Everquest religiously when I was in high school, and then WoW... 2 of my friends were obsessed with WoW that I'd go over, they'd start laughing, and I'd ask them what was funny. My friend told me her bf told her a joke... through WoW. They were sitting on the couch together. It truly blew my mind that they rarely spoke in person.

A few of my friends still play, and still try to get me to play WoW. I refuse to though. Same with Final Fantasy XI and XIV. Boo MMO's.

It is so easy to level its ridiculous. I leveled my rogue to 78 in three months but in between that I had a alt that I leveled to 60. The funny part is that I would always make fun of a co-worker I had at the time who played WoW. I found a cheap copy at goodwill so I thought why not. There has to be a reason why its so popular, right?

The only good thing about WoW is that it got me off of smoking weed everyday. Then now that I stopped playing WoW I'm still sober so I guess WoW has its benefits.

I absoultely refuse to play WOW. All of my friends play it and have tried to convince me several times. I cant justify paying what it costs to play nor do I have tons of time to waste on playing one game for hours on end.
