There is a rumor that John Madden was going to be a NES game before the plug got pulled.  Is there any chance that this is ever found anywhere, sometime before I die hopefully.  I am a Madden/general football nut, and even if the game was crappy as hell I would be happy as a little school girl.

I am so happy that NGD released Ditka.  It's the first unrealed repro i've bought, and I don't care that it's not Tecmo, I have just about any crappy football game you can think of.  Ten yard fight.  NFL nes,  Madden Dos etc. etc.  You imagined it in a wet dream, I have it somewhere.

As a cheap substitute/plecebo, How hard would it be to port the Gameboy version to NES?

DreamTR owns a Madden prototype, but it's no more than a rolling demo. Other than that, no copy has surfaced. I don't know how much of the game was actually completed beyond the demo.

WOW!  Even so, I would love to have it.  Dream TR is this for sale?

Everything Dream has is for sale.  The real question is, do you have the cash?  This badboy will not be cheap (nor should it be).  Unreleased NES game + Huge franchise + Dream isn't actively selling = Big $$$

Oh, I have plenty of cash laying around, enough to by a new car, but I'm very leveraged, and also have lots of debt laying around as well. I also have some collectable cars I could sell, but probably wouldn't go there. Mostly a matter if we can agree on a price i would be willing to pay. I highly doubt it though based on what you say. It's always fun to dream.

Well he logged on today and hasn't posted here so I am guessing he isn't interested in selling it anyway.

I just PMed him, I'm about half serious, but really I have no idea what he's going to want for it. If it was a full fledged rom, it would be one thing, and your probably right, there's no way I could afford that, but this is a demo, so what the heck does that figure into the price? Im guessing a demo is worth around 1/5th of what the final product would be worth right now, but that is a wild-harry-assed guess.

i'm not sure. even as a demo, it's unreleased and a popular name to boot. not sure what he'd want though, so asking is pretty much all you can do.

I actually had 3 copies of Ditka at one time, all in different stages of development. The one NGD ended up with was most complete sans the title screen, which is the only one I kept (most completed version with original Mike Ditka Big PLay Football title screen)..

Madden is exactly what Beaglepuss stated, essentially a rolling demo. PRessing the A button cycles through the screens (pretty much the same screens you see from that link mrmark referenced above)...

I don't mind selling it, but yes, the price has to be something significant enough for me to part with it. Everything has its price.

About me signing in today, I think my computer automatically logs on to this forum when I turn it on or something because I did not check the forums today but I don't really check many of the subsections much these days...so I did not notice this thread until I saw the PM....

I swear I think/thought I might have one for Game Boy original as well, and I know that did not come out either, but I don't remember. Guess I'll check my updated lists....

EDIT: Ok, I do have an UBI Soft version of John Madden Football for original Game BOy as well. Someone seriously needs to come and organize/document this stuff because I seriously have zero time anymore =(

Beaglepuss: By all means if you are ever here, go nuts...we need a documented prototype site updated with scans and games (like the Warp ZONE NES, but updated) and if I was able to, I'd be all over it, but NGD and psergeant have so much other stuff going on, I doubt any of it ever will be documented correctly/scanned/tried out, etc...tsr did a few before, but that was a long time ago...

For every bit of info Matt and I have, Dream has 10,000% more.  I'd love to have an updated place where all of our stuff is documented along with everything else we dig up, it would be cool as hell.

Jason:  I don't know what I'd rather check out more, Game Galaxy or your NES proto collection.  I think I'd be completely overwhelmed seeing either one in person, but hopefully Matt and I can make the Nashville trip sometime and check your stuff out!

Honestly, I should have nearly a month off in the summer (depending on grad school). I would certainly take you up on that offer if you're even half serious. That's assuming I don't faint at the site of the awesomeness of your collection.

I could shoot you an email as the summer draws closer.

Mark contacted NGD about possibly revamping the NES Warpzone. Mark and I have scrounged the web for any bit of prototype info, and we've done our best to document everything in our path. Other members here have sent us odds and ends that could round out the site as well.

I was on a streak to collect every Madden prototype ever made at one point. Jason turned down my offer of 1000 some years back.  Things are a bit different today. I would think an offer in the 3-5k range would bring it home for sure but that is pure guess.

$3-5K?  For that price John Madden better hand deliver it and seal the deal with a reach around.

3k-5k for a rolling demo is stupid. Now an unreleased game at 3k is one thing, but having nothing more than a couple of screens roll buy when you press a button doesn't constitute a "game". At 5k i would get that roller blade game TR has. For the same price, you would have a full unreleased game.

1k topps.

Just my opinion though.

There are 2 ways of looking at it though.  For me, if it were at open auction, I agree with the $1k estimate.  That would be the absolute most I could see it going for even with being from a popular series.

When it belongs to a private collector who isn't specifically looking for a buyer, it turns into what it would take to get it away from them.

I'll use Hoppin' Mad for example.  Dumped, unreleased games typically hit between $300-$600 at open auction on EBay.  Because of that, that is what I would consider the value to be.  That being said, I wouldn't even think about letting it go for twice what I believe it to be worth because it means so much to me.

If it comes down to what it will take to get this from Dream, it's whatever he finds reasonable to separate with the game.

I don't think I could have said that any better. Games like this aren't really "for sale" but could be bought at a certain price.

I don't want to get in the price debate, but one key thing to consider is "What value could I realistically expect to get should I have to sell due to financial hardship?"

And that's going to be nowhere near 3k-5k. Just food for thought. I consider myself a hardcore Madden fan that has bought every single title since 1994 but I still try to think "rationally", even when it comes to pursuing a 1 of a kind item that really catches my interest.
