What are you referring to?

How to translate original famicom cartiridges?

or

How to burn eproms to famicom cartirdge as a donor, so you can play an English translation?

I think he wants his hand held for the whole thing.

If you want a lot of them converted to English, just get an Everdrive FC, much easier in the long run and it'll even play picky hacks that don't work right on dedicated cartridges. (Rockman CX, SMB Vs. Airman, Donkey Kong Pie Factory, etc)

Hi,

I've bought several famicom cartridges (waiwai world 1 and 2 and kid dracula) and I would like to programm some eproms and place them on the original cartridges so I have them in English .

I've made several repro's in the past, but never used the original cartridges....

So what do I have to do....

Verify pinout of the board and then burn the eprom to size. I'd verify that the PCB can take a certain size eprom via bootgod. Most pinouts are straight swaps, some are not.

it's only the prg chip that needs to be swapped right?

So I split the Original famicom file and burn the prg on an eprom and replace the Original maskrom?

It depends. If you split the rom and you get both PRG and CHR files then you need to program and change both.

Like Gorillazero said above, you will need to check the pin out on the original board to ensure you use the correct wiring (if it even needs it).

Use something like WindHex32 to compare chr files of original and translated. If they match then yes.

I've used WindHex32 and compared prg and chr of original rom with translated rom and they both have a few bytes different at location. So that means I have to swap both chr and prg?

FYI in case you run in to this too. With the converters I had on hand I had to remove center screw port completely on one and trim it on two.

Hi,

thx for the info!

Do you mind making a few detailed pics of the boards so I can clearly see what I have to do. I mean with rewiring the eproms not with removing the center screw (that's obvious )

This is how I wired them. Just leave enough wire exposed to drape over pin 31 and 32 when soldering to pin 30. Then solder wire to them. Makes for a quick and easy process.

Wai Wai World

CHR and PRG
  • Bend up pin 1, 2, 24, 31, and 32
  • Solder pin 1 to pin 30, 31, and 32
  • Solder pin 2 to hole 22
  • Solder pin 24 to pin 16

Wai Wai World 2

CHR

  • Bend up pin 1, 2, 24, 31, and 32
  • Solder pin 1 to pin 30, 31, and 32
  • Solder pin 2 to hole 22
  • Solder pin 24 to pin 16

Hi one question

1. how can I solder pin 2 to hole 22, because this hole already has a pin in it? Don't you mean hole 24?

Hole 22 is under pin 24 that you lifted. There are more pins than holes. 32 pins and only 28 holes. Don't count pins as holes.

Edit... Looking at picture I do not see anything wrong with the wiring besides where you disconnected pin one. Check the continuity of your pins to the edge. Hard to tell in picture but looks to be some suspect traces near pins.

They are. Make sure when you test that you have the board facing the right direction. This one faces forward same as label.
