Hello there everyone! Since there wasn't one going yet, this year I decided to take on the somewhat daunting task of running the Game Boy Color games beaten tracker for 2017. I will do my very best to update this tracker at least once a day every day for the entire duration of 2017, though in the event of unforeseen real life circumstances there may be times when it takes 2 or 3 days to get updated. In any case, I am fully committed to running this tracker for 2017 and I think it'll be a lot of fun! Before we get started I'd just like to thank GBC Collector and KrakenSoup for all the hard work they put into running this tracker in previous years, and I hope that neither of them will mind me using their game tracking template for this year.

Rules
• You must have started the game no earlier than January 1, 2017.
• Emulators and Virtual Console are okay but no save states or cheats may be used.
• Photos are not required, but encouraged.
• Most games should have an end game or credits screen, however in the case of arcade style games with no credits or end screen you can consider them "beaten" if you are able to top the highest score listed on the game's high score screen.
• Any other questions that arise as to what constitutes beating any given game will be dealt with on a game to game basis.

2017 Goals
• Beat as many games as we can!
• Top 2016's score of 71/452

Nice! Way to go Jin. For some reason I've never been as excited about GBC as I am about plain ol' GB. But I've got a box o' GBC games in my garage, I'll have to dust some off to contribute to the list.

Woo, you added Pocket Bomberman! Glad to contribute to the cause. I'll be sure to do more throughout the year.

Is there a criteria for Super Mario Bros. Deluxe?

I do know that feeling, especially after going through the list of all 452 games for the Game Boy Color to start this thread. The GBC's game library is probably 50% shovelware and little kids' games, but it's still my favorite system for all the really good games on it and it's backwards compatibility with the original Game Boy so I wasn't going to let the GBC thread tracker go neglected this year.

Yep, I didn't forget about you! For Super Mario Bros. Deluxe the only criteria is to beat the standard game mode. Since the credits roll after finishing the normal game I think that should count just fine, so you won't be required to beat the Lost Levels or all the You VS Boo stages to call this one complete.

At the moment I've got a couple GBC games lined up that I plan to do soon, Titus the Fox and Tomb Raider, but I do have GameCube system coming in the mail tomorrow (which will be the first Cube I've owned in many years) so it's entirely possible that I may get a little distracted by Star Fox Adventures for a week or two once it arrives. lol Still, I'll make the time to get a few more games done of this thread in the not too distant future as well.

Titus the Fox is done!

4. Titus the Fox

This was my second time playing through Titus the Fox, and the first time on real hardware. I played it once last year for the NA Game Boy Color effort via emulation on the Wii and enjoyed it enough that I decided I needed to own a physical copy of the game. I patiently waited and watched eBay for the better part of a year, and it wasn't until last week that I finally found a copy with a good condition label; and it was worth the wait! After playing through Titus a second time I'm even happier to have it in my collection, since the physical copy doesn't suffer from any of the slowdown that I experienced when playing it via emulation. Titus is—in a nutshell—a lot like what Super Mario Bros. might have been if it had no time limit and you had to find the secret vine blocks to get to the end of the level. It's half platforming and half just searching around trying to find hidden ladders, and it can be pretty frustating sometimes if you don't know where the ladders are. Fortunately I still remembered where all of them were from my play through last year so I didn't have to experience any of that frustration this time around.

It's still not a short game though, since even knowing where all the secret stuff was it still took me about two hours to get to the end and rescue Titus's girlfriend; who as far as I can tell is actually his twin brother in drag. In any case, it's a cute game with some solid platforming and exploration elements. A must own if you're a furry fan, but there are many better platformer options out there for the non-anthropomorphically inclined.

Appreciate it Jin.

Here is Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.

Great job with Tidus the Fox. Your comment about Tidus and his girlfriend reminds me of Conker and Berri, well before the Bad Fur Day. XD

So I was digging through my GBC games that I have not finished up yet and I found and beat the following:

Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six

This game may not be the best out there, but it was fun for the few hours I played it.

I beat the links club in Mario golf, and it gave me the credit screen, do I also have to beat the Mario tournament to count it as completed?

If the credits rolled then I'd say you're good to go! I'll add it to the list of completed games.
I should be getting back to doing a few Game Boy Color games myself next week, this week I've just been thoroughly distracted by Star Fox Adventures on the GameCube all week lol

I think it's about my turn to add one! Using the criteria set for Ms. Pac-Man in the original Game Boy thread of getting through all 3 intermission screens, I think I can call Pac-Man: Special Color Edition finished.

I forgot to mention it earlier, but that Classic NES Series GBA is totally awesome! Is that an AGS-101 screen in it or is it just the camera making the screen look brighter than usual?

Thanks Jin! That was my first GameBoy system I've ever owned (got it around 2005ish) and it is still kicking strong. When I saw the aesthetics of the system, I just had to have it.

It has an orginal GBA SP backlit screen. I do have a few 101 systems, but I do not have the nerve to attempt a swap like that.

Tetris DX! I got the fancy space shuttle launch that unlocks at 200000 points in Marathon mode. I also beat the CPU on Normal. I think that's a suitable requirement set.

I assume that you are not counting games that weren't released in the US? I beat Dinosaur'us 2 days ago, a Game Boy Color game that came out in Europe only. I guess there are a lot of people who have never heard of this game, maybe my full walkthrough might be interesting to get a general idea of this game:

As to wether or not this game counts, the thread owner will have to decide on this probably.

Looks like a neat game, a sidescroller with random encounters.

As for counting it, I'd say give MR.X Fatboy890 a point, but we don't need to add all the EUR games to the list. We're already waaaay behind on finishing them all before the end of the year.

Sure, I'll log European and Japanese games and award points for them. It would be more difficult than I'd like to add all the import games to the list of games to beat in the original post, so that will be remain confined to games released in North America, but I'll still award points for foreign games.

I was looking through the list and I decided that if we can't beat those 3 Elmo games, then we aren't even trying. You may ask, "but who is cheap enough to beat them?" Why, Splain of course. (source: the Game Boy thread) So I played through them. The 123 game is straightforward enough, I finished all the modes where you have to count, add, and subtract. It has a UFO theme. The ABC one has a carnival theme, and as you have to match letters to fill a container, then Elmo walks out and tries one of those swing-a-mallet-and-try-to-hit-the-bell games. The first time doesn't go well, so you have to fill another container. The second try is better, but you have to fill the container 3 times to hit the bell. Steroids??

Elmo in Grouchland is a platformer, with grammatical errors and level names like "Flowers Bugs and Bugs."

A marvelous experience. 10/10 would play again for 2018.

I played these on an emulator that's apparently only for B&W Game Boy games, so the screenshots are greyscale, as these games are black carts. Sesame Street Sports, my next target, is evidently a clear cartridge, so I'll need to get another emulator to play that one.
