There are some pretty damning photos from the new york toy fair that show an identical snes cartridge slot, identical spacing between ports, and the proprietary nintendo multi out. Plus the fact that they had to power it on/off by unplugging/plugging it---implying the actual system inside was stuck in the on position. There's no way in hell that's a real prototype with a snes fpga. It was a snes board. And I agree with everyone who has pointed it out that it is appalling they are calling it a prototype. They're going to fall flat on their faces again. But I believe in forgiveness and if they can find it within themselves to apologize publicly for making such huge asses out of themselves (and lying), and then consult with engineers who actually know what they are doing, and furthermore, create a system that is actually a unique and NEW cartridge system, I think they have the potential to create a product that could catch on eventually. But they're not going to convert mainstream gamers to cartridge gamers en masse, they need to get that out of their heads immediately. Not to mention they won't get many new deveopers if this thing only hardware emulates old systems. You'll get the same crazy people who are making games for old systems right now...but there are many more normal people who don't want to make things hard for themselves (i.e. write code for a pleasant modern platform)...they need to make a system for those folks if cartridge gaming is to make a comeback. And I don't think that means going straight for a new system that can run unity games. Just make a system with a nice C toolset and api that makes it easy to make games, where you don't have to worry about oodles of hardware quirks. Tons of people would love to make games for that.
Think about how many indie game devs out there can't really make it in modern markets because it is oversaturated. Create a small community around a new cartridge console and it'll give some of the smaller guys a chance to stand out by focusing on their system. The big guys can stay focused on the popular platforms (xbox, pc, nintendo, android, ios, whatever)
Sorry that was off topic, This really belonged in the chameleon thread.
