If you like RPG style games, I'd recommend Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls 4. If you want recommendations that are a little outside the box, try s.k.a.t.e. or Stranglehold.

I forgot to mention that I put in about 80 Hrs on Oblivion (fun game). I will have to give Mass Effect a shot as well. I tried skate, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I'm just trying to fill the void until Gears 2 and CoD World at War arrive on the scene

Ninja Gaiden 2 is awesome, but pretty tough. Mass Effect is great. Fable 2 just came out. Just to name a few.

Oblivion is a great game, especially the game of the year edition with the shivering isles expansion.

I believe you can also download the expansion on Live if all you can find is the original. Don't quote me on that though.

Anyway, I really enjoyed Conan...lots of blood and boobs, although it does get old fast.  Still, pretty solid for $20 or so.  Also, if you're into action-strategy type games, Overlord is pretty decent...solid cheeseball fun.  Can't go wrong   I might come up with a few more soon, I'd have to go over what I've played

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

Yeah I have the Elder Scroll IV GOTY edition. Shiver Isles was indeed a great expansion. Overlord huh? Maybe I'll give that one a go. I do love me some action adventure!

Assassin's Creed is fantastic. One of the best games I've ever played on any system. Make sure you pick up the guide for it, though, cuz the game has some really cool extra stuff that you can do (or d/l one from gamefaqs).

I actually happen to own Assassin's Creed as well. I played it for roughly 10 hrs, but never got too into it. That is one I should definitely give another go.

As for Kameo, I did a little reading on it, and the game seems interesting and fun. I will most certainly pick up a copy.

That's the problem. I guessed my wife's gift to me, she's getting me an XBox 360 used with 60 gig HD from a local shop for about $200, with the sole purpose of getting Ghostbusters.

Not only was it delayed indefinitely but there's really nothing else that appeals to me. I'm not exactly a current-gen gamer. I never really fell in love with the whole 3D heads-up thing. I did it to death on the PC with games like Doom II and Quake on the campus lan back in the 90's, and got my fill of the exploration-style games by playing Mario 64 over and over and over.

I'd probably be much happier with a Wii from the sounds of things. Also, I won't be hooking up to the internet with my game console. I don't want to pay more for a game I already bought. That's another problem I have with current-gen stuff: it always seems to come disabled, and you either need to buy a membership to get at everything, or spend hours unlocking stuff.

Sorry, end rant. Perhaps someone can talk me into having her keep the layaway on the system, but all this Halo 3 / Assassin's Creed / Ninja Gaiden "guy games" stuff just won't do it for me. I'm the guy that will play Balloon Fight or Clu Clu Land for hours and be perfectly happy Games: I'm hard to shop for.

I know Jason's gonna scream "DS" right about now. I hope it got better, I tried it in the early days and was tremendously unhappy with the interface.

^ Personally, I think the DS is a HUGE improvement over the older DS "phat". It's just much easier on the eyes and hands...especially after long non-stop use.

I also own a Wii, and I can tell you there are some great games that remind me a lot of the NES, but with more clean graphics. For example, people have commented on the new Wario game to be very NES-like. And, I know there are many more games that are puzzle/logic available on the Wii. I know you said no to the internet, but the Wii also has this service called Wii-Ware that allows people to download games for really cheap and are often described as feeling more old school....like NES/SNES games.

Stars makes a great point here. The Wii has a large variety of games that appeal to all sorts of gamers. The virtual console on the Wii is free to use and shop (all you need to do is to have wifi in your house or buy a ethernet adapeter that Nintendo makes), and the games a relatively cheap.

As for the DS lite, it was such an improvement over the original clunky DS that it almost seemed like a new system. Very sleek frame, compact and light weight, back-lit LCD screen. Its a thing of beauty. To be honest, I had not bought a handheld system since the days of the original Gameboy and Game Gear. I couldn't justify it. This was based on the fact that if I am not home I'm driving somewhere or at work. If I am at home, why would I play a handheld when I have a Wii, NES, and a 360 hooked up in my living room. However, after spending a weekend visiting my brother in Calfornia last year and fiendishly playing on his DS lite, the choice became apparently clear. I needed one of these. I play mine all the time, at home, work, vacation, while I'm waiting for my girlfriend when she is shopping. I also bought a "R4DS" which allows the user to download rom files via the internet and I have the complete NES library in crystal clear graphics on there as well. I'm not trying to come off like a salesman or anything, just sharing all the joy that the DS lite has bestowed unto me . Hope this helps.
