really I don't think it's worth more than 5k. That would be 2000 cart, 2000 box, and 1000 manual. all of which would be a premium price.

What its worth and what people are going to pay are two different things. I dont think its worth more than $5000 either.

I bet you could get 3-4k for just a box in decent shape.

I say it goes over $10,000, but only because people are already going nuts and the winning bidder will end up being from a joke account and not pay.

Yeah, I really think it will go in the $7k-$10k range just because it has been so long since we've seen a box.

Does anyone remember the factory sealed copy that went for only $3,000 like a year and a half ago?  Whoever bought that made a great investment.  I wonder how much that would go for now.  I think someone on this forum has it, I forget who though.  But also keep in mind that the dollar has been suffering a lot lately and is not worth as much, so maybe that's a factor too.

Yeah, that's Bronty — I was thinking about that too...though I doubt he'd ever sell it...

They're really not 2 different things.  If someone pays $10,000.00 for it, then its worth $10,000.00.

I have to disagree -- we see this all the time. A rare game that hasn't shown up in a long time gets listed. Said game sells for a massive amount, typically a lot more than it was previously thought to be worth. Other owners of said game see the ending price and decide to list theirs. Theirs doesn't sell for as much as the first, and each successive sale is even less. The result of this, however, is that the "foundation" price goes up. An example: SE cart-only, a year ago, was selling for around $900 on a good day. None were listed for a long time, and so the price went up to $1,700 when one finally was listed. Sales that followed in hot pursuit incrementally went for less than that amount and the plateau is now around $1,200 (a +$300 gain from previous "value").

So, with this game, there really isn't a reference point, but we may see one after this auction if others decide to cash in on the excitement. The value as we know it (now) is what we've seen boxes, manuals and carts sell for individually, added up together. I wouldn't doubt that this game will sell for $7-8K+ *this time*, but I'd doubt it would sell for more than $5K each additional time. There simply aren't many people that have this kind of money to spend on a game. I'd also bet that some of the bids on this auction are from people who are bidding for the sake of bidding, knowing the price will go higher than their bid amount. This in itself pisses me off because no one should bid on anything unless they have every intention of paying their bid amount. We should do a test on this theory by listing a really, really rare game and requiring payment be made in 24 hours. Wait until the bidding gets high, then accept a bid from someone about midway in the bid ladder -- watch them squirm when they realize they have 24 hours to come up with $4K, when the highest bid is $6k

But with so few SE boxes and manuals,I dont see many of the 10 or so people that have them "cashing in".I agree that it happens all the time with less rare games and even SE carts,But a SE box is SO rare I dont see how too many other non collectors will have them. But this auction proves that it is possible.

This guy must've had a legendary day at this particular estate sale...there's a Family Fun Fitness set (w/Athletic World) in mint shape in another of his auctions ...

As for this auction, there's no question in my mind that it'll hit $7000, given its status already, and given at least one of the potential participants would probably give that much (not me, btw...I may be able to raise a lot of money very fast, but even I can't get that much in a week's time). $10,000, though, would be too high of a guess..I'd say closer to $8000. Good luck, Erik...the fate of the completion of your CIB collection rests on the shoulders of this one auction .

What's next for this guy? A SE guide or proto? It makes me highly doubt that he found both of these items at a estate sale. I even had a dream last night that a SE map or Bandai power pad would pop up in the SE listing and it did but with AW.
