sounds to me like a precursor for emulator save states. I would love to have this for Gumshoe, that game infuriates me to no end. I like how the guy said you can also plug it into a Game Genie. That would be absolutely insane!

It doesnt look like you can insert a NES cart into the top of it. I dont think its fully functional.

This technology rocks and it's VERY convenient but it suffers from two big problems:

1. It's expensive/scarce (kind of go hand in hand, so it's rolled into one problem)
2. It erases its own programming when the battery runs out.

Number one can be rectified with money. Number two requires someone with a CopyNES to reinstall the programming after the battery is changed.

So not insurmountable, and once you've got one you're in business.

For more info and pics just do an advanced forum search for GAR.

Someone on Nesdev is implementing this for the powerpak. He just has a few mappers done, but apparently it works pretty well.

right on ... also you have to yank out the metal bar from inside your NES in order to use it ...

it can be used with the Game Genie extension for the NES 2 if you have a NES 2. W/out the Game Genie extension designed for the NES 2, it is impossible to use w/out taking the NES 2 apart.

I've seen it in use, and it indeed does kick ass. It works exactly like an emulator save state does. I believe it's select + B to load and select + A to save, and it's one save state at a time. There's also other options you can access dependent upon the game (I think).

I have a extra one that's dead that has taken me 2 years to send out for a reflashing. Laziness - I has it.

If you PM me, I will tell you to go away, especially if you're trying to mooch my games.

It is a pain to use on a front loader considering the parts you have to remove. Otherwise, it is a cool item. I didn't know you could use it on a top loader with the top loader game genie. I guess I'll have to buy another action replay.

I've been wanting one of these for over 4 years now. I was so close to snagging one off eBay for $20 last year that was included in a poorly listed lot of NES games.

Taco taco taco... think of it like a Piggy Back HES cart.  Hopefully this picture enables you to see how it works.
