Hello everyone and welcome to the 2012 NintendoAge Weekly Contest Tournament.  After 10 months of competition in the weekly contests, our top 14 participants of the year are ready to do battle in an elimination style tournament.  All the participants know the rules, but they will be posted again here for reference and for all of NA to follow and enjoy.  The same basic rules of the weekly contests will apply for all the games played in the tournament.  Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes or save states if playing on an emulator.  The tournament is going to begin this Sunday, November 11 at 10 PM NA time.  Here is the timeline for each round:

1st round: Sunday, November 11 to Tuesday, November 20 at 10 PM NA time
2nd round: Sunday, November 25 to Sunday, December 2 at 10 PM NA time
final round: Sunday, December 2 to Sunday, December 9 at 10 PM NA time

We are going to take a short 5-day break between rounds 1 and 2 because of the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S.

This will be an elimination style tournament and everyone is going to be paired up against one other person for the first round.  Seeds 1 through 6 have gone to the block winners, while seeds 7 through 14 have gone to the genre winners.  Here is how everyone is going to matchup against each other, starting with the seeds:

Round 1 Matchups

For each subsequent round, the remaining lowest seeded players will be matched up against the highest seeded players.  There will be one 3-way battle in round 2 in which the highest seeded player will take on the 2 lowest seeded players.

All year I have been choosing which games everyone was going to play for the contests.  Now it's time for the participants to decide.  That's right, they are going to choose which games they want to play throughout the tournament.  The concept is simple:  Each person chooses a game they want to challenge their opponent to.  You can't challenge each other to the same game and the games must be from different genres.  There will also be a twist.  I will also be choosing a game for each matchup.  The genre of the game I choose will be a different genre from the game you and your opponent choose.  Each matchup will be a best of three matchup.  Confused?  Here's an example:

I choose Silver Surfer

rdrunner and Space Jockey will play those 3 games against each other for the first round.  Whoever scores the highest on each game by the end of the 1st round is the winner of that game.  Another example: rdrunner scores highest on Arch Rivals & Space Jockey scores highest on Ninja Gaiden 2 and Silver Surfer.  Space Jockey is the winner of the matchup.

The game choices aren't limited to a single matchup either (ex. if rdrunner selects Battletoads for his matchup against Space Jockey, guillavoie could also select it for his matchup against dra600n).  However, once you pick a game, you may not choose it in later rounds if you progress that far.  Participants should have their game choice submitted in the public contest thread on NA by Tuesday night, November 13.  Choose your game wisely.  Once you have chosen it, you may not choose another one.  If you don't choose a game by Tuesday night, I will choose one for you.  The list of games and the rules for the games being played in the tournament are located in the contest Leaderboard thread.

PRIZES!!!

Yes, I will be giving away prizes for the contest.  The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the tournament will receive a prize and one random participant who is eliminated in round 1 and round 2 will receive a participation prize.  All prizes are going to be coming from retrousb.com.  Here are the prizes the participants are playing for:
