Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week's game is going to be Felix the Cat.  Here are the rules:

  • 1 life only
  • Get as far in the game as possible
  • If you beat the game, take your picture on the screen where Felix rescues Kitty Cat (you can still see your score.  Be aware that it eventually disappears and you can't see your score after that).
  • Absolutely no 1-up loops allowed
  • Furthest progression wins with lowest score taking precedence
  • Participation: Get to stage 1-3 boss
  • GENRE: Action/Platformer

The contest ends Sunday, 10/1/17 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Yay! Felix the Cat!
And progress with low score! I like it!
But I have this feeling that we will have a massive upset on the final standings this week!

This game is pretty easy and I foresee a lot of people getting far in it. This game should be a fun an exciting finish to the Action/Platformer genre.

Absolutely!
It will be a worthy final game.
But I know for a fact that there is someone who is really good at this game that isn't me or Tables and he might as well snatch the win from us!
I am excited!

Would 1 life, high score be better? Otherwise to get the lowest score people will have to wait for the timer to tick down at the end of every stage.

Even more suspicions,i didn't do a side pocket kickle picture, what could I have planned for such a lighthearted and innocent game such as this?

This is most worrisome indeed!
What sort of evil are you hiding there?

I think playing this low score adds an interesting element between powering up for easier boss fights or going in naked

Those who are serious about playing this for low score will have to wait out the timer at the end of every stage. That is a huge problem with this being a low score contest.

Naw, as long as you got less than 5 seconds left on the clock you get nothing point wise. Same thing for going into the boss bags.

So get to end of the level with usually over 100 seconds left and then wait for the timer to tick down to under 5 seconds. Every level. And do it all over again from the beginning when you mess up. This is a major headache waiting to happen.

One life and high score would be much more fun and less stressful as long as there isn't some way to indefinitely point press even with one life.

There is still room for improvement, since I left a lot of points on the table against the bosses playing it safe.

There's definitely two ways to think it, especially because the magic bag sequences make all little items (that give points) respawn once you exit them.

High-score : You will need to maximize the clock in order to backtrack level to get the most items possible, so you will have to use all the clock in action in many levels.

Low score : Extreme method being waiting for the clock to run out at the end of each stage, but your score is second matter as long as you don't beat the game in one life.

This game was a suggestion from a regular player, and we respected the set of rules he proposed ( along with his arguments). Both ways are possible, high-score being the most competitive (and demanding) to play it.

With all low score contests, stop worrying about the score. Play the game, try to beat it. Beating the game with Max score is still better than beating 1-3 with a low score

I think the rule set is pretty much perfect for this game, even with having to wait for the clock to run down.
I will be posting my score tomorrow night.

So neither option is perfect. If we keep low score rules then I might try just playing through the game normally rather than focusing too much on score.
