Hi Everyone,

Long shot, but might as well try...

Due to other travel committments I won't be able to attend the AGE Expo, but I'd love to be able to participate in the auction if at all possible. Looking for someone to represent me during bidding.  Happy to do it over the phone/internet/whatever.

Done some deals with folks on here, feedback is positive on eBay, and met a few of you at CGE & other events.

Come on, it'll be just like Christie's where there's a phone bidder!

If interested, let me know.  Thanks!

He might get you to spend $1,200 on a mystery auction.
Sounds crazy, but he did it at CGE.

Ha! Jumpman Jr is right. It was a mint CommaVid Video Life with manual... of course during the bidding all I knew was that it was a cardboard box with a question mark on the side.

Near the end I was bidding against DreamTR.

There were a few.
It is important to note that the year BEFORE the one we're talking about, there was a loose (2600) Magicard. I think its worth like a grand. I'm pretty sure swlovinist (he's a member here) won it, and then traded it for a Stadium Events cart.

But last year:
1st one went up, Drexel923 (who is also a member here) won it for like $200. All crap Atari commons (or something like that).

Then the next one went up, and I think it went for $400... also to Drexel923. All crap Intellivision games (or something like that).

Then! This is where it got interesting. The guy running the auction took a handfull (like 10 or so) or Atari prototypes, and put them into a box, which none of us could see. Then, he pulled out TWO boxes. And he said that the protos were in ONE of the boxes, but there could be something else in the other box, but there might not be.
Nicola, the guy who runs gamesniped, who likes his protos, won the auction for $600, and then he got to choose which box he wanted (without knowing either of their contents). With showmanship, he picked one of the boxes, and it was the protos... he was happy.

THEN, the other box went up for auction, which sold for $1,200... and it was a loose Video Life for the 2600. Crazy rare.
I would never bid on a CGE box because they would always be Atari items. Still fun to watch, though

Yeah, was mentally preparing myself for it to be a box of Dragon Boys or something (hey, it's all going to charity!). Took a second to process as I had never seen a Video Life before that.

Taht was the model that they hired for the auction. You should have seen her sword pics... I think wizard took a whole bunch of her in different poses...

-------------------------

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."
