Yup that's what it is right now, because 44.1kHz is a required setting so all devices will support it. 48kHz is also required but I don't know if anyone can tell the difference. The A->D chip can go up to 96kHz, HDMI up to 192kHz, so there's lots of room for enhancements later if needed. 16 to 24 bit means almost nothing for actual audio quality.

Does the cartridge push down and lock in like a frontloader or does it just push in?

I'd rather have mine be black than grey. Then again I'd like a shell that I could paint myself even more.

Is the Retrozone / RetroUSB NES/Famicom capable of video other than HDMI? If not, I wouldn't be able to buy one since I don't have an HDMI TV. I guess maybe it's not marketed towards my kind. I'm fine enough with my AV Famicom, just wish I could find a good 72pin to 60pin adapter that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Just push in, making it lock down would be too expensive! Every separate piece of plastic is a few hundred dollars for 3d printing protos, then many thousands of dollars to have the mold made. The case will be ABS so it will be easy to paint. Having multiple color options really isn't something I can do unless it sells far better than I am hoping. I should have customnesguy make some gold ones tho

I don't know..a 10 gold system auction a few months before you release it for sale...might help the costs you're having.

Good, making it lock down also introduces the design flaw Nintendo made. That's why I love the top loaders.

Painting I'm fairly good at, taking electronics apart and not losing / breaking the parts is my weakness.

I still want to know if it is 1:1 in every way with an NES/Famicom. I understand that it's basically hardware emulation. I'm too excited to think straight!!

Looks great! Would this handle PAL games any better / differently than a regular ntsc NES?

It's not an emulator in any way.

PAL mode runs at PAL speed and outputs 720p50.  No frame repeating to get 60Hz.

Does it work on monitors with a native 60 refresh rate?

@Dra600n: But will it function exactly like an NES/Famicom?

If your monitor can handle different refresh rates, yes. PAL mode works perfectly on my PC monitor which is an Acer, PAL games that are not normally displayed right in NTSC mode are now playable in PAL mode!

Any chance we might see an expansion port on the bottom for future additions? I'm thinking a new designed FDS shell that the existing disk system hardware could be installed into. Maybe get rid of the plug in ram pack and have the ram onboard the newly designed hardware. You could just plug in the drive directly to the board through the expansion slot (pass through connector). This new system would look slick with a front loading disk system addition (like the 64dd)

If the FDS drive used a common connector like a DB15 then the RAM adapter could be built in, but the custom connectors like it has are just too expensive.  Can't spend 5k on something that 20 people will end up using.  But there is still some time to add hardware if you think of more ideas!

I like the one in front in the first row. Reminds me of the Messiah NEX system. Neat looking system, horrible functionality.

I think the front and the left console is the best looking one.

Oh, question on power...what do you plan on doing for that? Are you copying the original NES's power jack? Will the power supply be included? And if it is, is it a switchable power supply (can plug into 120V or 220V with the same wallwart)?

Middle back is the best. Straight lines and two tone gray like the NES.
