Great finds Ben. I can't believe a Bookmans store would have a DKC Competition cart.

Thanks, Earl! I'm also surprised, but after shopping with Bookmans so long, I shouldn't be surprised! I've had my eye on the SNES competition carts for a while now. I thought that if I were to ever own one, it would be the StarFox Super Weekend as it seems to be more available and cheaper.

Hypersmoochum, I'll have a PM sent your way!

I wouldn't change your impressions on craigslist at all, but at the same time I wouldn't ignore it either as sometimes the resellers slip up. They did for me last year and I nailed a lot for a very nice price which had MMX3 and King of Dragons in it plus like 17-20 more with a system too. You just never know, but selling seems to have gone into the toilet in both places I've tried now with slime and illiterates who ask 'how much' when it's clearly written next to the games name.

I suggest you rethink your flea market stance though. I agree that a lot of games there can be mistreated and look like grimy messy turds, but that works in your favor. All the licensed NES games have those really durable bodies and labels, so as long as something isn't cracked, shanked, bleached, or ripped off you can get it back to fine shape with a little work. If you're on it saying much was $2 a game but they looked like crap, so what, it's $2. You have to think that if they feel NES games are crap and worth $2, that's the foolish types you dig up $50-100+ games from sitting between Othello and Barbie. Out in CA I did it nearly 3 years before moving back here and I came up with amazing stuff well under ebay values then and especially now.

@Cabanon - thank you! At first, I didn't give much weight to the DOCS controllers because I already have a pair I deemed to be for parts (missing battery covers), but I'm glad I kept them because I can't bring myself to throw out any piece of gaming.

Tanooki - I agree with you in that Craigslist shouldn't be ignored. Like you, I've also spent too much time trying to make deals happen and working with illiterates (I mean this in the most non-condescending way possible) that I could have fared better by trolling eBay BINs. At least I won't have to worry about losing my money or having a gun pulled on me on eBay.

I also agree with you on flea markets. Upon further investigation, what I went to was a swap meet (if that makes a difference), and the day I went was something like an open day where anyone could set up and anyone could enter for free. Because of this, only like 1/6th of the area was full. The last time I went to that spot, all the parking spots were full of vendors and there was actually stuff to look at. Having been yard sailing for 15 years, I'm used to, and have come to enjoy digging through crap. I'm not complaining about the condition of the games or the $2 price tag, but I was fed up with vendors thinking that they can get $20 for a Nokia 8200 or $5 roller ball mice.

Thank you for pointing out that there are deals to be had at flea markets/swap meets. I will have to give it another go when everyone is there. I'm very pleased to hear that there ARE still deals out there, as it seems like everyone jumps on Amazon when you ask for a price, then quotes you double that price.

Ben

"I avoid Xbox like plague after having deemed a fairly sizable lot of non-sports Xbox CIBs I bought for $1 each to be worthless."

Collection-wise, unless you're exclusively Nintendo or something, now's the time to buy for original Xbox. The console has a ton of great exclusives and they're probably as cheap as they'll ever get right now. Years down the line people will want to play them and the price is just gonna climb. Get what you want now while they're cheap.

@ColdStatic - you make a fantastic point. I've been mulling over this the past couple days and I think you might be right.

My first concern was that a lot of these games are still being sold at "bargain" prices, and that there is a lot more supply. Thinking back to the late 1990s, a lot of the popular Nintendo titles sold for next to nothing (looking at those Funcoland price lists). I can't help but wonder if Xbox will be the same way, even though it has quite the fanbase.

I personally never liked Xbox at all. Never cared for the sports titles and I would get motion sickness playing a lot of the mainstream/popular stuff. When I owned a modded Xbox way back when, I would use it to play Mario Kart 64 on it. I finally gave it away when I tripped over it one too many times.

I think I will keep on buying the more well known titles if I run into them for like $.50 or $1. I can only think of one instance where I paid anything significant for an Xbox game, and that was a sealed copy of Conker Live and Reloaded. I still question my judgment to pay $50 for it.

Thanks for your insight!

Thanks guys I feel much better about the purchase!

I happen to have a Suikoden I disc around somewhere. Is it recommended that I dig it out and play Suikoden I before II?

Yep. In fact your character data (or at least his name?) carries over from 1 to 2.

The PS2 games aren't quite as good, but I'd recommend picking them up if you find them cheap, stay away from Suikoden Tactics and Teikeris? though.

That is so cool! I'll have to look into starting Suikoden I/II after I finish some of the other games I'm working on now (Secret of Mana, Lufia 1, and A Link to the Past!

Thanks for the heads up on the PS2 games, I really appreciate it!

No problem, Suikoden III-V are great games, but compared to II, they're not as good.

Suikoden 5 is incredible. Almost as good as 2 which is my favorite game. Lots of money but worth it. I recently won a disc only copy for around 65 and was thrilled to get it after selling a mint copy for 20 dollars in 03...

The original is also great. The imported data is pure fan service but the game is great regardless.

Oh, and for the record I liked Tierkreis quite a bit. Not on the level of 1/2/5 but more than 3/4.

Price wise you're talking about 2, not 5 right? 'Cause if Suikoden 5 is that much now, wtf! I remember seeing copies of that eeeeeeeeverywhere in the early-mid 00's.

Suikoden V is like a $40 game the last time I checked. Thanks for the heads up on the other games, too!

Also a bump for today's finds!
