I've also made a change to the rules regarding the Solar Value. The actual pinball table holds the Solar Value in place after every Game Over, so it will be okay for this contest. No need to power off the NES after every attempt.

Could someone explain what the Solar Value is exactly and how it affects your score? Does continuing to play after a game over actually give you a chance at a higher score?

If you shoot the ramp to the upper playfield, you add points to the Solar Value.  If you get Pin Bot to open his visor and activate multiball and shoot the ramp to the upper playfield while the visor is open, you will collect the Solar Value.  However, when you collect the Solar Value, you advance the playfield to the next level and the game has an added challenge to it depending on what level it is.  Level 2 adds a ball-eating monster to the middle of the table and level 3 adds spaceships that can grab your ball and fly off with it.  I've never been past level 3, so I'm not sure what is added for level 4 and beyond.

Continuing after you get a game over can give you a chance at a higher score depending on how many points you added to the Solar Value and if you collected it or not.  This is something that is in the original pinball table and not an actual glitch in the NES game like I originally thought.

Sounds like you got to level 4.  In level 3, the ships just shoot missiles at your flippers.  In level 4, they shoot missiles and can grab your ball and fly off.  The manual says there are 6 stages, but I've never been past level 4.

Ah, I gotcha.  Thanks for clearing that up.  I thought for some reason that they fired missiles and grabbed your ball on level 3.  I don't get that far very often and try not to advance the table past level 2 because I can't stand the ball-eating monster lol.

Seeing as how participation was at its lowest in 2015 last week with Rampart, I will do a random prize drawing for this week. If we can get 25 or more participants, the prize will be Super Wario Bros 3, a Mario 3 hack. If we get less than 25 participants, the prize will be Adventures of Lolo. Let's see lots of great scores this week

If I remember reading it correctly from gamefaqs, levels 5 and 6 have snakes on the inlanes that can eat your ball. But you don't want to advance the table for the most part as it makes things harder and the scoring doesn't increase for each successive table.

I can say that the solar value maxes out at 5 million and if you get multiball, shoot one ball into an eye socket (2x solar value) and shoot the other ball onto the solar ramp while the first one is locked, you'll get a whopping 10 million points.

Also getting vortex multipliers are huge. I'm not sure what it maxes out at,but I've gotten up to 8x. When you first put the ball in play with the plunger, try to get it in the middle hole. That's the vortex. Base value is 100k. So if you have a high multiplier, each shot into the vortex can really boost your score. It resets if you lose your ball though.

The easiest way to do this is to hit the solar ramp and while the ball is trickling down the right side, hit select several times (nudges the ball right) to try to get it in the right slot back to where the plunger is.

Oh and select and start are your table nudging/bumping buttons. Select will nudge the table and ball right, start to the left. Each press will nudge the ball slightly. Just be careful not to tilt the table. Also,if you do advance to table 2,rapidly pressing start and select will free your ball from being eaten by the ball eating blob monster. Usually he will let it go once you see the "danger!" message at the bottom of the table. You can do this for the monsters for the other tables too,but it's harder as you progress.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks, guts. Those are some good tips. I didn't know most of that!

When I fired this up, I realized I had played this game before, probably as a kid.  It must have been a rental.  However, my love for Rare Ltd games continues!

If I score higher can i add another photo and have it updated? Or can you only submit one score? I'm not very good at this game.

You can post as many scores as you want during the week, just make sure to only have one post with your score at any time by editing the original. You can also make a new post as long as you edit the previous one.

Ok, figured it out. Just about a 10 million point update.

I'm predicting we'll see at least a 50 million point score submission from someone.

I'm not sure we'll see one that high although I can see one in the 20s or even 30s. I'm happy just getting what I got.

It almost feels like the game has some sort of score moderator to deliberately sink balls if you have one that racks up a high score.

Ha! Yeah, I'm pretty sure all pinball games have this feature. Even actual tables.

Got a slightly higher score.
However, 9 million of that was with 1 ball.
I wish I could kill that stupid slime on level 2.
It's not even that he eats my ball, it's that his gravity screws up my shots. When he's pulling the ball in, you can't get a good shot on the ramp.
