This time last year I felt like Brett Favre with the Jets. After this tournament I feel like the Brett Farve that limped off the field with the Vikings.

Congratulations to the top 3 finishers in each tier! Everyone put some some superb scores in every round of the tournament, including a slew of world record-breaking scores. Thank you all for making the 2014 contests a huge success and the 2014 Winter Tournament one of the most competitive tournaments in Weekly Contest history. Now a preview of what's to come for 2015. The 2015 contests will start up on February 1 and will begin with one of the greatest games on the NES, Super Mario 3. And that's not all! If we can get 50+ participants in the first week of the 2015 contests, I will give away a very special prize that I have been hanging on to for the whole year. Stay tuned for the 2015 Leaderboard and Contest Schedule thread in the next couple weeks as guillavoie and I get the schedule and rules fine-tuned. And now for our big prize winners. Here is what everyone is winning:

TIER 1
1st: arnpoly - Batman: Return of the Joker
2nd: CLAYB1RD - Simpsons: Bartman Meets Radioactive Man
3rd: BriGuy82 - Adventures in the Magic Kingdom

TIER 2
1st: Caleb47 - Galaxy 5000
2nd: BilltownSparty - Ghostbusters w/manual
3rd: khog143 - Batman

TIER 3
1st: Thundercat08 - Overlord w/manual
2nd: Commander Santa - Bionic Commando
3rd: Beliskner - Legacy of the Wizard

The following participants will be entered into a drawing for the Elimination Prize, Spider-Man 3 on the X-Box 360:

arch_8ngel
babywuchki
Balloon_Kid
Czar5
EgasKrad
Gutsman004
JamesRobot
Velinos

Also, bearcat-doug opted to give up his Tier 3 prize since he was able to beat the Twin Galaxies world record for Double Dragon 2. His score is so impressive, he will be awarded an honorary Tier 1 icon for his impressive score.

I will hold the drawing for the Elimination Prize shortly. Everyone else who won a prize will receive a PM from me at some point tonight asking for a mailing address so I can send out your games. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the tournament! I hope to see all of you again when the fun starts up again in two weeks.

What a strong finish from everyone. It was a fun season again. I was going for the top spot in the sports category this year but Claybird is just too good in that field. Thanks to everyone and esp. arch for his scientific analysis each week. Bill, man,I knew you would post something big, I honestly didn't think my score would hold up (tier 2 has soon really good gamers).

It looked as though the contest was going to fade off but I'm glad everyone still competed when they could ( I know I missed a few games this year). Looking forward to next season!

If I should win the elimination prize, please redraw as I don't own that system and have no means to play it. Let someone else enjoy it.

Ditto.  I missed reading what it was earlier, otherwise I would have declined too already since I don't own any Microsoft systems.  Plus I won a random drawing not too long ago so it's good for someone else to win.

Okay, it's time for the drawing for the Elimination Prize, Spider-Man 3 for the X-Box 360. This drawing will be just like all the random prize drawings done throughout the year. Everyone who was eliminated from the 2014 Winter Tournament will receive a number and I will use a random number generator to determine the winner. Here is everyone's number:

1 - Czar5
2 - babywuchki
3 - arch_8ngel
4 - Balloon_Kid
5 - EgasKrad
6 - gutsman004
7 - Velinos

I will post the winning number shortly. Good luck to everyone!

Just wanted to give a big thanks to bimmy and guillavoie! Thanks for running this and taking the time money and effort to ship prizes!

the thing i love most about this tourney is there is always a nice mix of games i loved and games i have never tried/heard of. I look at the collection and always struggle to find something to decide to play and this sheds some light on some great titles i would never consider playing!

What was your favorite game this year in either the summer or winter tourney that you had never played before?

I think mine is Dragon spirit with a close second krazy kreatures

Thanks again!

I haven't had a chance to check it yet today to confirm, but I think my controller legitimately wore out in the middle of my last run.

I actually need to get new inner rubber components for my controllers.

I took one of them apart and cleaned all of the contacts and friction surfaces, and realized that the A/B rubber piece has a huge tear on one of the buttons.

Still works, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it separates completely.

The d-pad got WAY better after the cleaning, though -- 30 years of grime will really inhibit your accuracy in Tetris. (didn't clean it prior to the Dr Mario week -- which I definitely blame for a few mis-drops)

I need to open mine up later and see what's wrong. During my last attempt almost every cyclone kick I tried came off as a regular jump kick like the button presses weren't registering properly. That controller probably took more abuse these last few weeks than it had all year, so I wouldn't be surprised if I wore out the rubber piece under the A/B buttons.

Yeah, I had some runs where every cyclone worked (or at least 95% of them did -- and I would hedge my bets by making sure I was facing away while doing it to avoid accidentally landing a jump kick).

But then other runs where I could try 20 times in a row and not execute a single cyclone.

Could have just been whether I was "twisting" the button or not from side to side and exacerbating the torn rubber.
