Ratings key:
10 - One of your very favorite artists of all time.
9 - Killer fucking band.  Or artist.
8 - Great sound, great songs, great albums.
7 - Very good, but not quite great.
6 - Pretty good.  More than a few songs you like.  You'd entertain the thought of seeing them live if they were in the area.  Or still alive.
5 - They're okay, but maybe not something you'll go out of your way to listen to.
4 - Meh.  There may be a song or two, or an album that you dig, but you'd rather listen to other stuff.
3 - Not very good.  You will more likely than not turn the station if they come on the radio.
2 - Not your cup of tea at all.  Some people like this, but you are not one of them.
1 - Horrible in every way.
0 - In the running for worst artist/musician of all time.  You would rather take a cheese grater to your face than listen to this.

Current Standings:
6.09 - Weezer
5.00 - Lady Gaga
4.33 - Linkin Park

I will say their Africa cover video featuring Weird Al was pretty badass.

Also, voted 6.  Can't think of any of their songs where I run to change the station, so that's good.

If they stopped after maladroit id put them higher. Just not a fan of their newer material

Pinkerton
Green album
Maladroit
Blue album

All really good. Love pinkerton album. Newer stuff bumps them down from 7-8 to 6

Probably bump this one up to a 4 from the usual 2, there are a couple songs that I enjoy but wouldn't go out of my way to listen to.

Great SNL clip, it really is like that. I was pretty into Weezer at one point. If I had to pick a side I'd pick Purist, but there's plenty of stuff since Pinkerton that's worth listening to, just no whole albums. I'd take Weezer over Linkin or Gaga any day of the week.

But I listened to a Song Exploder podcast a year or two ago where Rivers literally said that he was writing lyrics based on random phrases that he'd been collecting in a spreadsheet over several years. He stepped through an entire song explaining it. He said he'd put lines together if he thought they sounded cool, and people would think they had some deep meaning or history to them, but they don't at all. That made it hard to listen to any recent Weezer, because now I can't unhear a string of self-described meaningless phrases from a huge pool of them in a literal spreadsheet.

And the Africa cover is really no great shakes. but he did it live once with Weird Al playing the bridge on an accordion. So there's that.

I give Weezer a solid 6. I like the Blue album. Then only a song or two from each album after.

6. I think they might be one of the most overrated bands though.

I never got into them until the White Album came out, and I went through most of their discography. White and Blue are both great, Pinkerton has some really strong moments but also some super weak ones that drag it down a bit for me. I saw them live that tour in 2016 and it was ok but largely forgettable. They didn't even play the best song from White album (Do You Wanna Get High, which kind of captures the gritty feeling on Pinkerton which made is a good album).

I listened to their newest album and it's probably a 2/10 album.

love. it's the quintessential gen-x band: they find a good blend of emotional vulnerability, sarcasm, and fun wrapped in post-punk rock. across a few iterations from members to producers, they've kept a good sense of themselves whilst evolving, and I believe a lot of their "big" sound comes from arrangement which often is covered by production. being commercially successful is nice, but it also means there's a revolving door of fan traffic, which I don't really care too much about but I've seen some older fans shake their fists and wistfully talk about the Pinkerton days. They have hooks for days (there's a RS article from almost twenty years back with rivers creating an excel sheet of hundreds of hooks for future songs), a taste of weirdness (but not too heavy on the odd), and enough content that it's okay to hate a song or album and not walk away from the band. if they've become adult contemporary dad rock I haven't noticed, I was singing every freakin word to summer elaine and drunk dori.

back in the days of Napster and the like, that song would often get mislabeled as Weezer. It was so prevalent that Weezer covered it live at one point to be funny. It's on YT somewhere.

Did you hear the White album? I'd rank that one up there w/ Maladroit and Green tier.

Husband:  I'm ride or die!

Wife:  For WEEZER?!?

That is fantastic.

For me, they are emblematic of an era (early/mid-90's) and what we listened to at middle school dances.  (interspersed with Smells Like Teen Spirit)

Man, the Blue Album and Pinkerton are two of the all-time greats, but they really go south after that.

They were pretty low for a while in my books but the White Album and Everything Will Be Alright In The End really helped restore my opinion of them from their first few albums

^This is exactly how I feel.

I still gave them a generous 7.

They do great Nirvana covers. But using them in the same sentence as Nirvana is an insult to say the least.

My comment had nothing to do with their covers, and I certainly wouldn't put them in the same league as Nirvana.

I was referring to what music was popular at middle school dances in 1994 to be part of the primary rotation.

Once upon a time I had a CD collection. I believe I purchased the Blue Album three times during the life of that collection. Scratched/misplaced/loaned... it kept coming back. Probably my most played album of that time besides Superunknown.
