As someone new to this section and protoculture, what are some of the more sought after / yet un-dumped--unrepro protos that are out there, in someones posession, or rumored to be out there for the NES and SNES?

I should note, i see the running list stickied, i suppose i mean ones that people are yammering for, and have stirred up controversy like Mr Socks did.

For me, Socks has always been the one that was wanted the most. Sound Fantasy is another I'd like to see, but that is a pipe dream.

I just read an old thread about that, it sounds like it was supposed to be a good game too! Hope someone is making progress, it appeared a few people were actively hunting it.

If I had a fat wallet I'd put one hell of a wanted poster out there for that Sim City NES game. I feel taunted by its existence initially due to the spread it shared with Earthbound NES in NP and then towards the death of the mag when they showed the physical cartridge giggling about how no one can have it. So cruel.

Yes I forgot the issue, but it's the one that promo'd Earthbound on that one page toward the bottom corner around 1990 in Nintendo Power. They split shared the real estate with Earthbound and Sim City for the NES promoing both for the near future with pictures.

Here have fun and get angry at Nintendo Power after seeing the carved up Zelda 2 cart with it in there and the jerks taunting the readers.
http://www.unseen64.net/2008/05/2... That got me mad seeing it at the time as it was a cruel tease.

Check the comments below for a youtube.com link to a capture of the gameplay on video during a really cheesy Video Power program from that period.

Not in Sienfeld, the hilarious observational comedy program starring the one and only Jerry Sienfeld. He owns several protos, CIB, all NES but the last. Sim City, Jesus 2: The Third Coming, Twin Peaks and a bizarre, one of a kind Socks the Cat Rocks the Hill that was seemingly misplaced by whomever owns it at the moment.

I already tried throwing money at him, he's hellbent on doing a CIB release himself. As long as I end up with a copy I'll be happy as a pig in shit.

Patrick,

Sorry I didn't realize you were in MA.  Where are you exactly?  Maybe we can setup a get together and you can play it before it's released...Just a thought

Never finished. Not even close. 20% at most according to those who worked on it. Atari cancelled the contest.

This needs to happen soon. It's been too long since we've all gotten together.

You should want to own it. It was a great game. At least it was to me when I got a go at it when I was a kid. It's certainly the one proto I wanna see dumped & repro'd.

And I do remember the NP spread on it when it was still supposed to come out. I didn't read NP anmore by the time the taunting issue was done.

The best part about protos, is that nobody knows if another will pop up. So we might get a conkers 12 tales and then the guy who bought it for $14k will lose his baby.

''in someones posession'' there is a programmer that has the police academy proto but won't release it.

Yeah I've heard about that too, basically since the beginning.  I hope he has it backed up somehow.

It was part of a contest that involved earthworld, fireworld, waterworld, and airworld. Waterworld sold in limited quantaties and airworld stayed a proto after Atari went bankrupt and the crash of 83 started setting in.
