"The contest ends Sunday, 2/20/11" Do you mean 3/20/2011 or just next sunday?

I may give this one a go.

Here's a game I haven't really played that much. I'll need to dig way far back in my collection to pull it out. Just so we're clear, can you explain what point racking is?

This game is actually pretty easy. Something I was thinking of last time, too, I don't know if this would be a good idea, but I was thinking it would be nice if people who participate are required to turn in a high score at least ONCE during the week before the Sunday the end results are due. So maybe before Saturday they should put in one score or something, that way maybe it will keep competition higher. I don't know, I guess it doesn't matter. Anyway, please explain the point racking thing listed above.

This was one of my favorites as a kid. I just remember the controls not being as responsive as I would have liked (or maybe I sucked?) because I kept going off the edges and into the water. You really have to mash on the directional pad to get that damn dinosaur to change direction.

I'll see if I have any spare time this week to dust it off. Doubtful, but you never know.

I didn't notice that, you must have just sucked! I didn't realize you could go off the board until I did it by accident. At first I thought the Exit appeared in the direction you were facing after getting the last eggs, but it doesn't.

Hahaha, oops, I meant 3/6/11.  I just copied and pasted the text from another contest post of mine instead of typing everything out again.  I was going off 5 hours of sleep when I typed that

Bimmy, what's the point stacking thing you're talking about?

Since there is no timer in this game, you could just walk around one of the stages and fight cavemen until you racked up a huge score, hence the term point racking I used.  I threw that rule in there to get us to play the game rather than just sit around all day killing cavemen on the first stage to achieve our scores.

Cool, maybe make that more specific in the rules, if I didn't know what you meant since you explained it I might have milked that trick without realizing I was doing something wrong. Honestly, this game is total cake in certain regards. It seems to be boiling down to who wants to play it long enough.

No problem. I can change the wording a bit to make it more specific, like point harvesting. Point racking/harvesting rules are generally put into games that don't have timers since someone could just stay in one spot and repeatedly kill respawning enemies to run up a score. However, we generally allow point racking/harvesting in games with timers since you only have so much time to complete a stage/level before the timer reaches zero and you lose a life. If point racking/harvesting isn't allowed in a game, it will be stated in the rule. Although sometimes we may have to amend rules mid-contest to discourage point racking/harvesting if we discover that it could be a problem.

Wait, by one life to we mean one SET of three lives (meaning up to one continue), or do we mean just one single life? I hope the former because I just got a rocking score with three lives.

One life = one life. You die once, any method, trog eats you, fall of the edge, etc, and that's it.

Cool, doesn't matter, I went over my first score anyway with one life. It's quite beatable, I wasn't paying attention as I looked at something and hit the creek. I'm going to try more later this week. I'll post a picture later. Score is only 3 million +, very beatable. I got that in only like three levels, however. One thing I can't figure out is the level bonus. It says there is a time limit you have to beat to get it, but I don't see a timer anywhere unless the screen on my TV is cutting it off. What exactly determines whether or not you get the level bonus?

Nevermind, figured it out. The bonus is only given on the initial level you start on expert (level four), it doesn't exist after that. You get it provided you don't lose a life, which doesn't matter for this competition anyway.

By starting on Expert, you get the 400,000 point bonus only once. After that, you get 25,000 for beating each stage, except the bonus stages.

Oh, and I DID lose a life. Easy way to tell if someone has cheated is if they get to about that score and have FOUR lives remaining. You get an extra one after so many points, so as soon as I lost that one I took a picture when my dino respawned (before I moved him at all).

Not bad! It's a pretty easy game. You rack up points best if you get a chance to nab a pineapple on a level. That can at least double potential points for a round.

Hahhaah, Mog, you FOOL!  I've been holding this one, waiting to unleash the terror.  I expected you to go just a bit over my first one so I could reveal my power.  A slow poison that eats away at your nervous system, devouring your ability to play.  Are you ready for DOUBLE your current score?  TAKE THIS!

8,749,185

The pain has been unleashed!  I will not stop here though!  Next score DOUBLE that!
