I broke the 50k mark so doing a little better.

The playfield is so crowded and the game has a tendency to keep giving colors that you don't need... over and over. It's a really tough puzzle game.

What the hell is going on here?

is it just me or does the RNG just blow. Like there's times I get the same piece 6 times in a row and it happens very frequently

It is tough; you’re not alone there. There is a lot going on to consider at once. Especially to chain viruses. 

I’m ok at it, but a little rusty. I could probably make level 20 with some effort. I just don’t like the game so would rather not waste the energy or time. 
 

Watching some high score videos and I simply could not make the varied calculations quickly enough even on level 2 or 3 where people are getting HUGE chain.



Like... on level 3 dude ends up with almost half my score by level 12. I'm no good at these type of games, but man these high scorers make me look like some sort of idiot monkey.

I'm happy when I can make little combos that eliminate two viruses. The huge combos are beyond my comprehension.

 

You know if you changed your name to powergloves you wouldn't be having that problem.

GameboyRicky must have a doctorate in Dr. Mario. He got first place in 2012, 2013 and 2015. The only reason he didn't win in 2014 is that he wasn't competing in that tournament.

Yeah, think I'll go back to Tetris. This game makes my head hurt

I like the tidiness and simplicity of Tetris. No combos to worry about other than making Tetrises. If the playfield gets too messy, it's your fault (unless you're playing B type). And the rng is much less irritating.


 

First attempt at playing this game in about a year. Meh. Not sure I want to play this game very much, but I will at least try to improve my score some.

Also, Tetris isn't a marathon. I'm reading the 2015 contest thread and GameboyRicky said that his game took a little under 4 hours straight. I do not want to play Dr. Mario for anywhere near that length of time.

Updated. Best I got with this game and I'm through. I just can't even. I should have biffed it on 14 but got lucky and chained a 3 combo I didn't even see to clear some room. The amount of time to clear up the board to get to a virus is nonsensical.

Alright, likely the weirdest way to take a picture, but I figured out I could use my inner camera to take a picture. The brightness filter darkened out my name the first try though, so here's my masterpiece  .

You really have to have some top notch timing (and a bit of luck) to get past the opening of level 18 and on, one mistake and you're done. How Ricky was able to get that far just blows everything I thought I knew out of water.
 

Yeah, far less wasted pieces, mistakes aren't so punishing, better flow. With Tetris it's like I'm on autopilot (until I fuck up,) where with Dr Mario I feel like I'm struggling to keep up while making each decision

Have not played this game in years. I can't even remember when, but I don't think I was ever good at it lol. First two times barely broke 15k, third time did better. At least I thought until I checked this thread, holy cow the high scores.

How is someone in Massachusetts getting frontier ads anyway have they expanded that far outside of Denver? 
 

Did slightly better and updated my picture/score. Trying to plan out combos but always end up panicking at the end lol

I am having issues setting up combos. Sometimes they happen without realizing it. I had a better game thus morning, but I had to go to work.

This game does seem to work against you though. In an earlier stage, I was waiting for a double sided red pill to have a combo to end the stage and I got nothing but yellow/blue, yelllow/yellow and blue/blue. When I finally got a red/blue I out it to the side and I got a ton of other pieces I didn't need. The next time I got a red/blue, I got rid of one virus and THEN I got red/red. Thanks game.
