^Term limits are a must to keep things in the best interest of the people. I'm sorry a politician in office for 20 years won't be the one with fresh ideas or the one to embrace change.

I have to disagree. If the people are the ones constantly re-electing somebody, it means (ideally) that they're happy with the job he/she is doing. If the people want change, they'll elect somebody else.

Edit: And to be fair, our longest serving Prime Minister wasn't in power for 20 years straight, he came back multiple times (for those who are just itching to learn about Canadian politics, Google search William Lyon MacKenzie King. He's our Prime Minister with the most um...interesting personal life).

Buddy for me to be fair, I will say that something like 94% of incumbents were re-elected in NY this past November. Are you going to seriously tell me that  94% of your politicians are worth re-election with a straight face? Don't make me laugh by saying they are because you aren't paying attention if that's the case. The guy with the money and power generally can swing things their direction. They have better connection with the media and generally more ability to 1-up the opponent.

Arch's comment about it not being a viable career is exacly what I was saying. When your focus is campaigning to keep your career, you aren't looking out for my interests.

True, but I'm sure that differs depending where you are. If you're telling me that those politicians weren't worth re-electing and that term limits are good there, I believe you. They work in NY (maybe in the country in general) and we don't need them in other places. That's why I said "ideally" those who are being re-elected are making the people happy, but of course that isn't 100% the case. The problem is when the leader is doing a good job and they have to leave, whether the people actually want that or not.

Maybe this reason is why campaign funding should be limited. In theory less funds should equal less face time, hopefully putting more people on even ground. With technology today, it is much easier to look up information on candidates to inform yourself, rather than relying on the ads and rallys (not that many politicians follow up with their promises).

The only thing there is you'd have to get them to vote  for campaign finance reform, which will happen when pigs fly out of your ass.

Oh, and I would like to add the NY is the financial epicenter of the world, so all their stupidity that you feel insulated from directly affects you.

nested quotes make baby jesus cry.

also, did you hear obama is a muslim, so he hates baby jesus?

how long can this silly thread go on?!?!?!?

I thought nested quotes killed kittens....

Should I apologize to Jesus or the kittens?

prob the easier one first.

This thread will go on until there is 25 quotes within quotes. Lets keep it going.

Not a chance.... oh, wait!

this is seriously too many quotes. Guys, read the FAQ, only 3 nested quotes, okay?

Holy mind fuck, this thing is insanity. Can the quoting chain go on forever? Or does it stop at a point?

I've had that saved for years but i can't  use it seriously because i would feel bad about it.

anyway, Obama's birth certificate was found by one of those fact check groups or something and it made the rounds on the internets. at this point anyone denying that he's a US born citizen is in denial/stupid. my only problem with him is that he's an empty suit and he promotes terrible policies. also he's a liar as evidenced by the continued operation of guantanamo and the treatment of bradley manning (the military whistleblower). also I think he promised to get his kids a dog and then didn't do that either.

Whistleblower? What a nice way to put treason.

Yes, the President is an American citizen. That whole argument is stupid and made up. But, I cannot believe that not one person on here knows the laws of the land of the citizenship test to be President. A person must be a natural born U.S. citizen to be President of the United States. There are two was to be a natural born citizen, to be born in the U.S. or be born the 2 U.S. citizens outside the country.

Since it is the dumbest idea, please explain why limitation to 2 terms is a good idea. If the president doesn't do a good job and people don't like his changes, he will not get re-elected. If he does a good job, he can look forward to a new term. Where is that flawed?

And what would America be if F.D.R. didn't serve more than two terms and wasn't the main guy to guide the US through WWII?

I doubt having FDR out earlier would have changed a whole lot. Personally can't stand the guy, think of him as America's first defacto dictator considering he packed the supreme court and had a congress in his hands. He's the reason why we needed term limits on presidents, sadly congress doesn't get them too.

Controlling the supreme court is definitely one of the most important aspects of term limits.

Anybody who thinks term limits are a bad idea must live in a fantasy land where voters are actually informed on the issues and take their civic duties seriously.

We need term limits to protect us from the ignorant masses.

Or does it stop at a point?

lets find out and see what the new server really can do

are you willing to do what it takes to push NA to strange new heights?

even though i would be further derailing a pointless thread YES!

i feel like derailing this thread is not only a service to the community, but to the free world.

The right thing isn't always easy but the right thing is still always right

fyi, this is exactly how lewis and clark felt.

Someones got to break up the quotation train here. I think back on the topic of it, one must really ask why will he not just put the real birth cert out there and just come back with the whole announcement bit. That's what bothers me. Sure you're supposed to vet anyone thoroughly for the position, but perhaps playing the conspiracy theorists devils advocate here perhaps the DNC saw a loophole to confuse investigators with the announcement vs the cert. I see it is that, or the chickenshits 'high road' way out of just ignoring it. We saw what happened to Bush when he refused to ever deal with shit and ignored it, crap blew up in his face just as it is again now with barry. Sometimes it takes more than a couple years for some new idiot to come along and not learn from the mistakes of the past, sometimes not.

arch, we've been over this. I don't take offense to things easily, so you don't need to post a disclaimer when addressing me.

Having said that, I've literally heard everyone say that Obama was born in Kenya, not just my family. Given the rampancy of the claim, and the fact that I don't keep up with American politics outside of the occasional internet article now and then (I don't have a TV in my room, so watching the news is pretty much out of the question), I think I have a legitimate excuse for ignorance this time.

Other examples, such as the one where my uncle claimed Wal Mart was going to be bought out by a foreign company, were indeed prime examples of stupidity on my part. I'm not here to defend those incidents. But this time, I had an actual reason to assume the veracity of that claim.

I don't think I would assume the veracity of any negative claim the general public of Louisiana has about a black president.

And while I truly admire your ability to go without a tv, if you go to Google's main page there is a neat link in the upper left labeled "news" that allows you to search every newsfeed in the world regarding any topic you desire to know more about.

One more quote of the quote string and I'm going to lock this ok guys?

Debate is fine, unless quoting for no reason, not fine!

My browser crashed three times while attempting to sift through the last page. I express caution to anyone attempting to go back and read through the pyramids of redundancy and pointlessness.

My computer froze trying to add  to the pyramids of redundancy and pointlessness. For shame.
