Apologies if this has already been discussed.

I am curious who, if any, has heard of the Hydra game development kit.   What have you heard?  I've read pro's and con's online and just was curious of more people's thought on here.

Also, if you think in your opinion that it totally sucks, what would you recommend for a simple developer?

Thanks!

I've had a bit of a look at it. Seems like a neat little platform. I wouldn't expect too much power out of it (though I'm not 100% sure how much it has). I'd expect SNES quality games from it. For learning the basics of game development I think it looks great.

For a simple game developer, starting out, just learn a popular language on your home PC.
It's free (assuming you're posting from a computer you already own).

The Hydra wouldn't be bad if you had a hankering for "true" console programming, but it is pretty limited,
and the user community is tiny, so there aren't that many people to appreciate your hard work.

Thanks a lot guys, for your input. My first impression is that it is pretty cut and dry, except for learning some basic programming. The Nerdy Nights lessons have helped me a lot to that effect. Soon, I'd like to begin making some tunes with the gameboy...but that's another endeavor.

Anyway, I haven't had a chance to tinker with it yet as it's not at my house but I have heard that power issue you speak of. I'm not looking from something too crazy, 8bit is fine. I'll let ya'll know how it goes...thanks again.

^^^ Good luck.

We all love to see new homebrew, if that's your goal.
