Ninja Gaiden Prototype ... Are there other copies out there? I have uncovered a beautiful NES Ninja Gaiden I Prototype, anyone ever see anything like it?

I heard in this proto version Jaquio is a flying unicorn and the game has the arcade version kill/continue screen.... you'd know it if you saw it. man is it brutal.

also, this is a joke post.

Yeah, that does sound like a solid offer, but it's yours man.

I think you'll be hard pressed to find a higher offer on a released game, from my brief knowledge of other sales.  Proto's just aren't worth as much as you'd logically think they'd be, as rare as they are

Either way, I'm jealous!

Alright guys and gals, I think I'm going to place this Ninja Gaiden Proto on Ebay in the next week or so. I was thinking about doing it here, but I need to have the buyer/seller protection that I can get from ebay, for both parties. I will keep you guys posted on when I decide what I'm going to do, but I know the new Ninja Gaiden comes out kind of soon, so I figured it would probably be a good time to part with it, if I'm going to do it. Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know what I've been thinking about. Please let me know if you have any questions.

You get the same protection by using just paypal as you do with selling on ebay, so long as the payment isn't made as a gift.

I think you should have taken the $500 and ran with it. Although there are still many days on the auction, I doubt it will get much action at such a high starting price, especially for a released game, and as they always say, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Either way, good luck on your sale!

Does anyone know what happened to this proto?

Also a question for Mark or Matt....is it imperative that you dump proto carts?

I would highly recommend dumping any prototype you come across. Nearly all prototypes contain EPROMs. These are chips that can (and will) erase over time. They're more resilient than some collectors make them out to be, but I have personally come across prototypes that have been damaged and erased by time. It is the best way to protect your investment and preserve the history of the game. I dump every prototype that I own.

What is the best way to go about doing this?

The best way by far, and often the only way unless you want to desolder chips on a one of a kind game, is a CopyNES. Bunny's USB version is the single most useful tool I've used in all of my collecting.

Good question, I don't actually know.  I use it on a computer running Vista (puke!) and haven't had any issues with it.

I dunno about what else it didn't work with, but this was on NESDev recently:

I should mention that I've dumped numerous prototypes for forum members for free, and would be more than willing to do the same for you Darth. I've dumped things for Qix, Mason Sushi, and I'm dumping some Genesis stuff currently for another forum member.

I dump the cart, email the owner the rom image, and ship the cart right back. Owner just pays shipping each way.

If it runs on Vista, it'll run on 7. I've yet to see anything not run on 7 that didn't work on Vista. Mark, I feel bad that you have to endure such a shitty OS

Matt and Mark are awesome for this service.

To add in, if the SNES proto boots up, I have a cart dumper for the SNES, so I can provide the same service if Matt can't for whatever reason.
