Nintendo M9 store displays have to be one of my favorite NES promo items.  There's currently one on eBay:

Nintendo NES M9 Display Deluxe ROB

I believe the seller wold his first one of these back in Feb.  Anyone remember what that sold for?

That first one sold for something like $4100, if I remember right. A most impressive item, for sure...wish I had one (too rich for me, though, heh ).

Are the parts inside real working parts? I've always wondered.

I've always wanted one of these. Not to fill any hole or for any other reason than it just looks so freakin cool. Now if following the M series correctly the M12 is the second version and the M14 the fourth. Has anyone seen an M1 or an M10? Or M13? M15?

Some of those are mentioned here: http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/...

M1 to M4 are 4 parts to a ROB display stand. I only have a sketch of it, and it was mentioned in TheRedEye's recent article. Never seen any photos of it.

M10 is a game display stand, M13 is a Zelda display, and M15 is just a poster.

From BB's incredible info link:

M9 - Lighted Hardware Display. Features all components of Nintendo Deluxe Set in plexiglass case. Utilizes non-working (dummy) product.

Thanks Dan.  Very interesting that they are dummy parts.  So Nintendo took the time to make mockups.  Curious.

They made a lot of mockups throughout; check some of their old commercials and you'll see NES systems with black power/reset buttons, box art that is different from the final release, carts with peculiar labels on them, gameboys with oddball font on them, etc.

Correct, based on the previous sale its a $4000 dollar nice item.  $1000 probably couldn't buy you a crappy one without the box.

I would value it above 1K but nowhere near 4K, personally. It's a cool yet niche item consisting of pieces that altogether are worth about $300-400 (and the majority of that is the plexi-glass). An industrious soul could create something similar to this with relative ease.

There's the thrown gauntlet... let's see some home NES displays people!

The total equal the sum of parts doesn't work very well.

NWC cart?

Sealed games?

Yeah I was going to use the Stadium Events analogy but I refrained from it because I don't understand why the argument of pieces only being $300 matters

This beauty sold for $3,650! So much for it only being worth $1,000! The funny thing is, if it weren't for the second highest bidder bidding it up pretty damn bad, the winning bid would have only been $1,300. I can imagine the winning bidder really wishing that he didn't exist right about now. lol
This is an awesome piece of memorabilia, but it's way to rich for my blood, so I highly doubt I'll ever own one.

There could have been multiple snipes that didn't register.  I've had auctions I went to snipe that ended where my snipe never registered because the bidding went higher than what I was willing to pay before my bid was placed.

Exactly.  This is an old, but very much invalid argument.

Really man? I'm pretty disappointed. I thought someone who is practically obsessed with the M82 would have more of an enlightened attitude about the beauty that is the M9.

The last auction that hit $4k showed up on Kotaku, and someone made a beautiful post about the memory they had of seeing the M9 in 1987 in TRU and pressing their nose up to the glass, begging their mom for the system. This is the first exposure lots of kids had to Nintendo. Almost brought tears to my eyes.

On a separate note,

I've seen 3 of these on Ebay, all of which were NIB. I've also seen a copy in a European's collection pics. I hear that there may be another 1 or 2 that were sold in the last 10 years that I didn't catch (cheapest one went for around 700). I think its fair to say that the number of these in circulation is (easily) below 10. What kind of madman would keep a dummy NES display in 1987? Thank god for packrats!

Anyone wanna venture a guess on the number of M82s? 50? 100? It seems like there is one up on Ebay every month. I find the M8s to be much more sexy (it definitely looks better!).

You are correct Ottoman... I showed this to my G/F the other day and she told me to just go ahead and buy it and consider her not bitching about me buying it my Christmas present.  That said my snipe didn't register as I was only in around the $2,500 range.

Thats the third 2K+ snipe I've heard from individual collectors. I think the price is pretty much cemented at 2.5-3K minimum.
