That depends.  I only went to level 22 before I maxed out so I intentionally quit.  The game itself maxes out its difficulty quickly though.  The skateboarding and surfing stages are exactly the same once you get to them on the fourth time around.  The only thing that changes after that is the amount of health you start out with.  By Stage 21 & 22 I was starting the areas off with just two yin yang health points.  If you make a mistake early on it will cost you your run, but you rack them up so quickly it would have to be a simple screw up.  Once you get to Stage 7 in skateboarding you can really only wipe out once and get away with it anyway.  The stage is so long by then that you will run out of time before you can freeze it and reach the end.

Since you broke it, what would your recommendation be?

Drop surfing entirely? And straight-out high score contest on the skateboard?

Like you said, even though the difficulty planes out, the margin of error remains tiny at that point, and more than one crash pretty much guarantees a loss.

That's what I was thinking as I caught up on the thread and took a shot at surfing. Took me about half an hour to figure the game out from scratch and rack up 200k points. If surfing is allowed it's just going to come down to who has time to sit down and grind it out for a few hours.

Limit to skateboarding and bonus points to balloon kid for breaking the game.

Yeah, that's majorly broken.

Too bad.

Given how quick it is to pick up "the trick", I'd say we limit it exclusively to skateboarding.

(and maybe we should take a vote, but a leaderboard bonus point for Balloon Kid for maxing/breaking it first could definitely be in order)

So the best solution would be to say fuck to surfing and make it a high score contest on the skateboarding only?

Sounds good to me. Sort of glad I haven't posted anything yet in light of recent events. And for those who got their carts.....jealous! Well not really, but I am looking forward to trying to win one in the winter tourney.

Is there a good way to tell that the person picked the course with skateboarding only? It looks like the game over screen is the same no matter which course you choose. Would pausing the game at wipeout and taking a picture suffice?

There's no way to tell from the Game Over screen if someone chose just the skateboarding, surfing, or Wood & Water Rage options.  Pausing the game at wipeout would be the only way to prove if someone just did the skateboarding.  If everyone is in agreement with switching to only skateboarding, I am fine with that.  I don't want to penalize the scores that have already been done on Wood & Water Rage, unless everyone is okay with re-submitting new scores.

Is it too late to just switch games? I say scrap this game and play a traditional sports game that doesn't have lots of exploits, etc. Double Dribble anyone?

It is getting quite late indeed. We'll have to go with the skateboard only, and unfortunately, any scores submitted before the change can only be good for participation (Geez).

I want to like this game a lot but the controls and the atrocious hit detection are preventing me from doing so.

aww man, really? I'm not going to be home at all this weekend to even try and post just a skateboarding score. I know things happen and all but this decision was rather late to switch. I mean, Balloon Kid made the discovery on tues and something should've been decided at least by wednesday night. Maybe going forward, any changes need to be made mid week so that gives people enough time to switch over..
Anyway, participation point it is then. I'm not mad at the decision, just wish it was made sooner. Still love the weekly contests.

The skating hit detection can leave a lot to be desired, but I don't think the controls are that bad (compared to the surfing)

I updated my score on page 2 under the new skateboarding only rules.  I kept my old score up too just for fun.

That is still a MONSTER score!  Congrats!

How many enemies per round would you say you're making an effort to kill?

I think have a handle on hitting all 3 ramps every time, and having full lives at the end (plus timer bonus).
The coins I'm about 50/50 on making a good run of the high point-value coins.

Enemies... I fell like there are only 2 or 3 I can hit consistently :/

83,540 - Round 8

I know I can do better than this,it's just a matter of not making stupid mistakes and overcoming the horrid hit detection.

1-3 enemies per round.  I kind of zoned in and out during the playthrough, not paying attention at times to when I should be squashing enemies.  Also, I'm getting 4,000 consistently just from grinding the rail per level.  You can quickly grind then jump off/on again in that section 4 times.  And as for coins, well, they're a pain to chain since they appear at random colors.  Whats even more messed up, is that the  same colors don't represent the same point values with both teams.  For example, pick Johnny Cool and the red coins are worth 300/600/1200/2400 while the green ones are 200/400/800/1200.  Pick the Tiki guy and those values are reversed, the green coins are 300/600/1200/2400 and the red ones are 200/400/800/1200.

I don't really bother with trying to get points from the moving objects. Mainly due to the hit detection. And can cost you your run in the later rounds. And unless the coin pattern doesn't have a green coin early on,I avoid the others and go for green exclusively.
