Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  It is I, Bimmnar the Brawny, and I am here to present you mortals with a challenge to help free my realm, Nintendaria, from the forces of evil.  Just recently, creatures from the Netherworld led by the vile and nefarious Kefka Khan have invaded my homeworld and their actions could very well bring about the end of mankind and the destruction of the universe.  I'm talking fire and brimstone coming down from the sky!  Rivers and seas boiling!  40 years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes!  The dead rising from the grave!  Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!  Many brave and legendary heroes from many realms and universes have attempted to hinder the invasion of the forces of evil and all have failed to stop them, including the mighty Warrior of Rastan, Strider Hiryu, Nova of New Earth with his mighty Power Blade, Gillian Seed and Random Hajile of Neo Kobe City, Samus of Zebes, Ryu Hayabusa of Old Earth, Solid Snake of the Outer Heaven Realm, and even the legendary Alf of Melmac.  This is where I will need your help.  With all these warriors and fighters thrown aside like unwanted NES Deadly Towers carts, I need you all to rise to the occasion and drive these evil forces from the land.  Cast aside those wooden swords and garbage-can lid shields, as those will do you no good.  For this mission, I endow you all with the ability to fire magic bullets and the Mighty Wing.  Take to the sky with your Mighty Wings and smite the evil from this land.  I hereby dub thee all...Legendary Wings!  Now go forth and defeat the cunning evil forces or else it will be Game Over for everyone.  Here are the rules:
 
 

• Play until Game Over
• Get as far in the game as possible
• Get as low of a score as possible
• One playthrough only
• Take your picture immediately after losing your last life (press on pause quickly), so we can see your score and where you are in the stage.
• If you beat the game, take your picture as soon as the game starts over.
• Furthest progression wins with the lowest score taking precedence
• Participation: Complete Stage 1
• GENRE: Shooter/Shoot 'Em Up

 
 
The contest ends Sunday, 5/8/16 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

well that changes things. Has there ever been a low score shooter contest? 

Why would you want to play through the second loop in a low score?  

I'll need to seriously practice this. I haven't beaten the first level yet.

I guess I should first work on beating the game and then worry about low score.

I haven't tried a low score run. Should be very interesting

Well, this is another game that everybody else thinks is easy and I can't even beat the first stage, lol. The game is fine. It's my fault for sucking.

Damn Brock that seems pretty low. Nice.

I told myself that I'd just make sure and beat the game first, so there were a lot of "safe" kills just to be sure.  And I also accidently grabbed about 7,000 or so in bonus items.  Oops.

I had a strange suspicion it would be.

Those damn gargoyle lookin statue guys are going to be a pain in the ass but other than those it should be okay.

Since it is low score runs we can get through the game quicker as well which is nice.

I had never played this game until I recently aquired the cart, and in just 2 days of it showing up I beat the game with over a million! Imagine how excited I was...... Was!😁

Bimmy seems to avoid using the same scoring in a game two times in a row, which is why I didn't bother doing any practice for high score

Such a better place to take a score picture man..........I tried doing it at the game over screen and it was "blurry".
 

I have to turn the flash on every time or else the pic looks like shit

I made it to the third stage, but I didn't get a picture.

How do you show your progress at the game over screen? Should you use a continue, pause it, and then get a picture in order to show what level you're on?

Maybe it's better to play until last life rather than game over?

I was wondering the same thing!
 

There will definitely need to be another rule change to address this.
