I was looking through some of the old NES and SNES threads, looking at how close they have come to completing their libraries over the years. Obviously NES is the big target for the whole site, and it's been completed many times, even throwing in extras like unlicensed titles and FC games. The closest SNES has gotten was last year with 553/714 for 77.5%. 553 is way more than N64's 303, and those threads have consistently been seeing 1000+ posts, so there is seemingly a good amount of manpower for SNES games, but the library is simply bigger, which means you need more people to do more hard games. If N64 had the NA manpower of SNES, I imagine it would be completed every year.
There's a definite "tipping point" phenomenon where people started to see that the N64 library "might do it this year!" and that gave more of a nudge for people to play games that they might not have otherwise. I assume games like Bass Hunter and Premier Manager would still be unbeaten if it weren't for this. Bronzeshield doesn't usually send me games for free either. Now that we've done it once, it has to seem even more accessible in future years for it to happen again, because "first time ever" definitely adds some oomph.
Without question, MeridianPrime provided that momentum by slamming out 44% of the library by himself, including tons of undesirable sports titles. If it weren't for him, we would have needed a team of people to cover that.
Additional shoutouts to twiztor and themisfit138 for knocking out the wrestling games. And to MeridianPrime, OptOut, PuppyWaffles, and Shellshocker for beating games that had never been beaten on NA before. And erac for beating Aidyn Chronicles. If you had asked me at the beginning of the year what the last one to fall would be, I would have guessed that one. But it was finished in March!
