One other thing, the boardtable:
 http://www.parodius.com/~veilleux/boardtable.txt

lists konami games like Double Dribble as UNROM carts.  If you ever take a konami game apart you will see that these use different chips and boards than other games.  So if you are planning on using a konami game as a donor, its  more complicated, and I've never done it so I wouldnt be able to help.

If you go to nesreproductions you'll see that Double Dribble (UNROM) which is a konami game isnt listed there either as a list of donors for California Raisins.

I'd offer to take a picture of the insides/rewiring of my California Raisens repro, but I know Im not going to have an opportunity any time this week.

If I buy all the stuff from RetroZone, then I wont need to do any re-wiring for Raisins, will I? But if I use a donor cart, I will need to rewire, correct?

Correct.  No rewiring required with the retrozone stuff.

Hey Nick, you can check my site for that kind of info. For instance, you were looking for what would work for california raisins. This will tell you:

http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777...try=usa&unif=nes-unrom

Note that I only specified the UNIF field to keep the Konami boards Al mentioned out of the mix, you certainly don't need to know that field. Another note, a lot of Konami's games had both types of PCB's in their games. You can tell if a game has a Konami board or a Nintendo board by checking the number in the top-left corner of the back label. If it is a printed '24', it is a Konami board, otherwise it is not (assuming some dink never swapped the back at some point).

Im glad this thread was created thank you guys. I got interested in reproducing unreleased games last year but never really took it anywhere, I purchased everything I needed then failed at making a few games and gave up. After reading this thread I decided to try again, this time i was successful I have created 3 games and I have 3 that Im going to do today I have even gone as far as painting my carts and making some labels I found on the internet. However not all the labels for these are available Ive done many searches and come up with approx 20 labels, I een went as far as to ask the two reproduction sites for images to make my own with no success, I don't blame them though its their business. So Im here to ask for some help in locating some labels or if some of you more artistically minded reproducers could possibly make some for me. This morning Im looking for The Goonies, Titan Warriors, and The adventures of Dr Franken. Also if anyone is interested in trading for some of the labels I have found maybe we could help each other out.

I also want to make it clear that I am not reproducing these to sell they are simply for my enjoyment and an addition to my collection, your images and creations will go no further than myself.

Again thank you for this forum thread.

Dang, what a let down. I was hoping he would be like "Yeah it worked great I am set". *Nervous*

I want to make some cart's for my own use and maybe for a friend to borrow. I like alot of the homebrews I have played as well as a few hacked games. Though as a big fan of Robotech I would like to try making a repro of that for myself to use with my Classic NES System. I was thinking of making that my first attempt. Though I have a bit of ways to go on the learning curb and buying the right tools for the job. Too bad about burnambill, anyone have tried using a repropak with a famicom game such as Macross?

Am I on the right path of understanding what was written about the proccess of making a repro on this thread using Macross as the test subject?

Chou Jikku Yousai - Macross - Famicom http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/profile.php?id=2304

  • Mapper Number: 0 (NROM)
  • PRG Size: 16 KB
  • CHR Size: 8 KB
  • Mirroring: Vertical

Download uCON64 http://ucon64.sourceforge.net/ind...

Purchase Two EPROM OTP 256K-Bit 32k x * 120ns 32-Pin PLCC - 27C256 http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/...

Split .NES file to PRG/CHR to be prepared to be programmed to both EPROM

Divide the 256 Eprom I listed above by 8 wich gives me 32 and then I have to fill both the PRG eprom as well as the CHR eprom chips to make the game work correctly.  To do so I need to duplicate the Prg file (16x2=32) and I need to mutiply the CHR file 4 times (8x4=32) to ensure eprom is completely filled.

I next have to purchase a programmer for the chips, once I own one of these,  I have to load the binary in the software and then i will have to set the programmer hardware jumpers per requirements of chip I am working on. Do this with the PRG files I have made to fill chip then once complete do the same with CHR.

ReproPak - http://www.retrousb.com/downloads...

  1. NES Mapper 0 - NROM - Setting to be used
  2. Solder Mirroring Tab: Vertical? Or do i solder the opposite of what it is?
  3. Solder: CIclone chip - so cartridge can be used on most consoles with out a problem
  4. Solder Tabs: PA 14- PA17?
  5. Solder: Two 0.1uf capacitors to regulate current to prevent overheating?
  6. Solder: Both CHR ROM and Not CNROM

Hopefully my experiences over the years soldering mod chips to my psone, xbox & ect. comes in handy on this experience.

Blue Case - http://www.retrousb.com/product_i...

  • Add cart to case

Test

  • Cross My Fingers and Pray

Cost

      • 2 x EPROM - $3.49
      • 1 x ReproPak - $4.00
      • 1 x Ciclone - $4.00
      • 1 x Blue Case - $4.00
      • 1 x Programmer - $?.??
      • Total Cost Sans Programmer = $ 21.00 Roughly

Anyone know a good programmer device I can use to program the EPROM? I forgot to add the capacitors in my cost and Does anyone know of a place to buy cheaper EPROM?

YES! Electronic Supply store down the street carries the programmers, EPROM, capacitors. I beleive I have my soldering iron and some solder around here still. SWEET!! All I need is to order a case and repropak from RUSB.

But if this thread turns into a Morgan bashing party, I'll delete/lock it.

My programmer was like $110ish.

Hey, I'm new to the forum and i have been trying to make a California Raisins Repro cart and its proving to be a little trickier than i figured it would be. I tried to make the cart using a Amagon donor, which is the same mapper. But from there it seems to be breaking down. My biggest problem is i cannot get any of the programs used to edit and split the roms to work on my Vista 32 bit computer. I cant get ucon64 or cajones to work, they wont even open. What i am using now is Hex Workshop to remove the header and Windows Total Commander to split the roms. Does anyone know if these programs will work or why I cant get ucon64 or cajones to work? Thanks!

My ROM splitter. Drag and drop onto it, or if you want the ROM details, run it from the batch and PAUSE it. The switches are posted in the file, and if need be it can also 1x,2x,3x,4x, etc the ROM so you don't need another tool to double/quadruple it up. Hope this helps! Source included if you want to add more functionality.

Thanks! got that part figured out now, on to other questions. If i am going to be making a california raisins cart can i use a 27C256 Eprom, the pinout is the same as the board then, but the 27C256 eprom is 32Kb and the rom is 128Kb, that means it wont fit right? but my programmer lets be burn the file to the eprom with no errors? The other question i have is there a place on the web that has the nes board pin layouts? I bought a new board from retrousb but the pin holes arnt labled and neither are the donor carts.

I mean to identify A7, A5, D2, GND, ect. on the donor cart.
