side note; i didnt know exactly what to do in the bonus area when i got my high score but after taking a look at the instructions i know i can do much better now...

Milking the bonus area isn't as easy or useful as you might think. If you somehow manage to drop the maiden while simultaneously juggling the ball for the next bonus, you lose the ball and have to relaunch.

wow. nice score. I think yesterday I hit 100k with my first ball, but I only ended up with like 180k or so total.

Yeah, I was on a roll with that first ball, but my game was interrupted and when I got back to it, I was no longer in the zone.

This game sucks. I got 232k with my First ball...



And then the next three just sink to the bottom >.<. Seriously? Ended with 291k

Ugh. Well, I just got ~252,000. I kept getting screwed on the top screen. I matched up 3 penguins at least 4 times, and each time I'd just bounce directly out the left chute right away. If I can actually take advantage of pengin time at some point you will all be... not... pleased. With it.

I think I hate this game.

The princess lady started yelling at me and the game just ended. Silly pinball game. Anyone here buy this game as a kid, I sure didn't. Good call on my part. I did buy 10-Yard Fight though, so I do make mistakes.

TN - if she was "yelling at" you because you dropped her, the game counts that as a lost ball, so if that happened on your final ball it would end the game.

That is what happeded allright.  And I was sure my next ball would be a 300K one too.  Not that I have scored 100K at all at this game yet.

I gave up after playing for an hour and a half, 17 games, I wasn't getting any better, one moment I do pretty good, the next game after really pathetically, back and forth, my scores drastically fluctuate from one game to the next.

Now Rollerball, that one I managed to get up there in the high 2 mil, but then perhaps the point system is more too, I don't recall, but I actually enjoy that game regardless, plays a lot smoother than Nintendo's Pinball. Still, admittedly, I'm no pinball player, these are just not my kind of game.

Pinball is really a love-it-or-hate-it kind of game. I happen to be pretty decent at the real deal, so had a bit of a head start on figuring out how to manipulate the table (despite how crude a simulation this game actually is).

The interesting thing about the NES Pinball game is that it doesn't seem like moves are 100% repeatable. There is some kind of random element, but I can't quite figure out how it works. For example, hitting the upper left ramp on the top table, or hitting the upper right exit on the lower table...I know EXACTLY where the ball needs to be on the flipper for both shots, but they only work 50 - 60% of the time. I suppose it's possible that the other 40-50% of the time I was missing the shot by one or two pixels, but I'm skeptical that was the issue.

This is definitely a game that it would be interesting to see the decompiled source code, in order to understand how the game was actually implemented.

I think the ball control problems stem from the ball bouncing lightly rather than rolling down the flippers. It's hard to strike the ball consistently when it's altarnately moving towards the flipper or away from it.

Game-B uses a heavier ball, supposedly, but we chose to play with default settings.

You're probably right about the minor bouncing. If it ends up being a combination of position and uncontrollable differences in incoming incidence angle of the ball, then getting consistent precision shots every time is almost impossible.

It would seem like they basically completely failed to model rolling.
