I just think if you died at a rate that required unlimited continues (i.e. wouldn't have fit the constraints of the next higher difficulty, let alone the 2 tiers of difficulty higher than that) I think it is a bit unfair to the game to claim it is 6/10 for your difficulty (i.e. roughly "average" difficulty overall)
The 8/10 is spot on, though, IMO. (though i wonder how many people have managed a win on "unfair")
I completely agree that the genuine "hard part" of Battle Kid is dealing with the bosses, though, and that only a few of the runs of rooms are likely to really rack up the deaths between continue points.
It's almost worth rating the boss difficulty separately...
Having prior knowledge of the game due to beating the game, it doesn't make sense to rate it with the same difficulty for myself as it does for a general "blind" difficulty. 7/10 could be more reasonable than 6/10, but it's kind of nitpicky when it's only a one-point difference, especially toward the middle of the difficulty range. Just being honest!
I would love to be able to put in the time to potentially beat the game deathless, but then I'd have to abandon my blog and all other gaming for a long while to do that, so it's not going to happen. I could definitely get the death count low enough with several more attempts though.
I put in even more time on Battle Kid 2 after it launched, and in that game I managed a 13-death run. Considering the sequel is longer and more difficult than the first game, in my opinion, that means I could probably get into the single digits deaths of BK1 with a few weeks of dedicated practice.
