Recently we have seen the USA NTSC prototype of Mr Gimmick released, it got me thinking is there any other PAL exclusive titles that the USA NTSC prototype has been found, dumped or released?

National Game Depot did a good job of listing the unreleased prototypes here:

http://nationalgamedepot.zoomshar...

Just scroll down until you get towards the bottom (it's a long website). There were several games not released in the USA where he wrote (NTSC Version) next to the title to indicate.

Off the top of my head, I know Hammerin Harry was one, Aladdin and there were a few more...

If anyone is LOOKING for certain repro/homebrews, I have a running repro company thread going as well as a lot of extras myself which include Limited Editions as well.  I'm also free to help answer questions and point people in the right direction so never hesitate to ask!  Here is the current list of repro companies.  Please let me know if I need to update it:

matt and I have:

ufouria ntsc
noahs ark ntsc
fire n ice ntsc
caveman ninja ntsc
elite ntsc
super turrican ntsc

that might be it, best I can do off the top of my head.

Edit:  I meant Fire n Ice 2, my mistake.

Any release plans eventually?
And isn't Fire n Ice already NTSC? Perhaps it's Solomon's Key 2 NTSC?

all will get released for sure, no worries there. caveman ninja and fire n ice 2 have ntsc counterparts, but we have ports of the ooriginal games. still worth noting.

Good thing, too, those games are great.

Just FYI we put out a dump of Fire N Ice 2 years ago, if you're interested. My old, old website even had a page documenting all the differences in text, it seems like it was a completely different translation if memory serves.

Dropzone? Rodland? Completely unique games that were just graphic or name swaps. Trolls in Crazyland I've alwas wondered about as it was made by ASC, American Software Corp, I believe. I know the label says American on it, ha. Don't forget about New Ghostbusters 2 that DreamTR has and released about a year ago.

Trolls in crazyland at least had a proto, I have a labeled dev board wirhout eproms on it. I have another board that had rodland in it, but was rewritten with another game, but I cant remember which game.

both dream and nesaholic have ngb2 ntsc, and castevania4ever had a bunch of regional proto ports before he sold out. Assembler has a super turrican ntsc as well

So it could "almost" be said, that there was going to be no PAL exclusives if all had followed through then.

I don't think Aladdin or Smurfs were ever seriously considered for the U.S. market. Saint Seiya certainly was not, though technically that was a Famicom game first.

I am so on the fence about collecting PAL exclusives, do I spend the money or wait and see if the NTSC equivalent gets released. I sit and look at my PAL Mr Gimmick and wonder do I want you in my life now that I can get an NTSC version. I could use it for an expensive addition to my NTSC collection, but then if I want to collect the PAL exclusives to have a true Licensed complete set its pretty much the hardest to get.

I have two copies of PAL Ufouria but I would definitely be down for an NTSC repro, even though it is certainly a lot less needed than Gimmick was (ie: Uforuia isn't insanely expensive and works very well on NTSC machines).

I'd probably grab Solomon's Key 2 as well, ya know, just because.

That is indeed an impressive list earlier -- the PAL exclusives (well, non-NTSC anyway) are probably my favorite category of NTSC-region protos to find. Keep up the great work.

Don't think it has.

Speaking of have you guys played with it yet? Was there a U.S. publisher attached to it?

I need to invest in a higher end EPROM programmer and see if I can dump some of my stubborn protos.

No luck with Elite, here was the best I did: http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/...

Simliar issue with my Turrican proto, seem to dump part of the ROM with large portions missing. Sucks.

Do the protos still run on NES though? It'd be a shame if they have lost their data. Which is also why it'd be good to get them dumped sooner rather than later.
