I saw recently on YouTube Pat will be on Pawn Stars on 2/11. This is great for Pat and best of luck to him but is this bad for collectors? Drawing more attention to the hobby as a potential profit and driving up prices? or does this flood the market with more titles as more people turn to their attics and basements?

Yeah I agree, I love Pat's channel and all so I don't blame him or anything and really do wish him the best but I know for a fact that people in my area started buying games based on another show Storage Wars I think. Again this probably increased availability for stuff collecting dust but its also the reason you see people selling NES system for 150-200 dollars on CL. I want more people to be drawn in to the hobby/life to preserve the carts and systems but not just so they can make a quick profit driven by a fad.

Who cares. I say good for him. The prices in this hobby spike all the time, so his appearance won't be a big deal (in terms of pricing, etc). I look forward to seeing this episode. I hope Pat holds a Q&A about his experience after it airs.

Doesn't everyone on that show get ripped off? It doesn't make sense for a guy like Pat who knows the value of everything he has to go on that show and expect max profit. But good luck to the dude, it'll be nice to see him in his national television debut. Hopefully he represents with a RWtv t-shirt or something.

I think he is being called in as an NES expert? So I dont think he is expecting to sell or trade anything on the show.  This isnt really about Pat though its about people who are not collectors realizing there is some profit in retro games. It depends on how the show comes out so this is all speculation anyways.

Maybe it will showcase the NWC? Or maybe his EVIL NINTENDO 666! It sucks that shows like this make everyone think that every NES game is worth $13,000, but it's super awesome that one of us is going to be on a popular television show.

Hasn't Mr. Contri been on '1000 Ways to Die' on Spike twice now? I believe he's already made his national TV debut.

It would be interesting if he is being called in to confirm the authenticity of a game or something. Who knows. I'll have it DVR'd so I'll see it.

Hmm would be interesting with a whole collection, the episode is called "Room and Hoard". I am in no way hating on Pat with this thread so I hope people are not taking it that way. I jsut wanted to discuss the episode and possible effects on the market.

Brings in Mario Bros/Duck Hunt...Seller Says 50k....Rick: Mind if I get this checked out I've got a buddy who's an expert in Retro Video Games.... Actually I am surprised they just didn't have Danny from Kount's Kustoms since he is the expert in like everything.

Hopefully Pat is being called in as an expert. I'm wondering if its something very very rare or even something fake. I still remember that one episode where that guy sold his Virtual Boy..

Made me laugh out loud about Danny. That also made me think of a pimp my ride type scenario with an NES installed in dash or something haha.

That's pretty cool that Pat is getting recognized like that.

I see people all the time selling their "model 001 NES" on CL, makes me laugh a bit. That fat fuck on Storage Wars caused all that.

I doubt prices will raise at all, if anything, more people will be digging old games out of their house to sell.

^^ ha, I was about to say, maybe it's a super rare NES-001 DS system, those are worth like $20,000. Either way, it should be neat, I'll be watching.

Yeah, I don't see anything really going up because of this.
Virtual Boy prices stayed the same after that aired anyway.
Probably was a pretty cool experience for Pat though!

"Room and Hoard" ?

Maybe they are showcasing extreme collectors' hoards, although typically the show takes place in a pawn shop? Or maybe I'm getting Pawn Stars confused with Pawn Wars... I try not to pollute my brain with too much TV. I'd rather play video games or listen to records... As in the vinyl type, not Guinness...

Given the shows infamous history with Battletoads I think he should appraise a rare Battletoads item like this one!
