I'd rather not talk about GDV because all my attempts to figure it out have failed so far...
I guess I would have better grounds to figure something out if I found the video footage of RDRunner Might Bomb Jack high score run.

Solomon's Key by the same company also gives a GDV rating.

There is enough data on NA about game difficulty ratings (albeit subjective ratings), perhaps that could be factored in?

Also, we've played the same same games multiple years...
...could we rank scores based on performance and factor those in?

Just thinking out loud.

All good ideas

Halfway through 2013. Starting to get eye strain.

While the idea of a 'rating' can be interesting, I think it is safe to say that we're not going to get the perfect formula to make it work VS the time it would take to make such 'rating'. Even a bad rating system would take way too long to create and it will be flawed so there will always be someone to say it should be otherwise (cause it can always be otherwise).

As far as I understood this thread, it is an archives thread, so all it should take in account should be archives. I don't think the point was to get a list of the best video games players in ranks, but rather having an archival idea of who did what in the contest. This is really all about the contest, so if you know the contest and its history, you can look at the stats and interpret them through other concerns and get some answers to some questions.

What could help is to state the time someone was active (May 2012 - December 2014 for example) and the number of contests he participated in. One could ask to have a hiatus in their activity if he only played in 2010 and after that only in 2013. I think my point is that it is easier and better to keep the stats general and let the interpretation more free, cause things like adjusting the level of competition between 2015 and 2012 or between that and this game will only lead to general misunderstanding.

Thanks Guill. I will try to respect your and bimmy's wishes as best I can.

On another note, as I'm going through all of these threads the long strange history of Dennis Fleaman is unfolding a bit at a time. Something about NA attracts some real characters.

In fact, it looks like he posted dupe scores a couple times to take multiple spots on a leaderboard...  so I guess just disregard the lesser score?  Should I bump up everyone's score below that?

Yeah, that's true, he posted scores under different usernames at some point. I think that your idea is good, just take the higher score from him and bump up whoever placed under the lesser score. There's a lot of twist to consider in compiling those stats, I'm glad to see you catch those problems in the process.

Man, trying to figure out what the hell is even happening in the 2009 threads is a massive pain in the ass.  I'm basically just going to have to log educated guesses for a lot of the early ones

You are 48th, literally the next (wo)man up, I just screwed up the copy and paste

And you've played in 12 games, all-time.  Andy who is directly above you has 28 scores.

Welcome to the nesruler era...nothing was well organized back then.  He would literally pick a game and ask the players to come up with rules.  Sometimes he wouldn't even post a new contest on Sunday nights when the previous one would end.  Sometimes I would get PMs from people asking what the next game was and have to quickly come up with a game and rules.  That's when bimmy stepped in full-time and righted the sinking ship with the help of guillavoie.

Haha, good olde Nesruler days.

I think a big problem with the quoted thread is that Nesruler was recycling the contest thread to make new contest, but without keeping the scores of previous contests...

Lol!

My run of the contest started the very last week of 2013 through the end of this year.  I really put a lot of effort into competing until my daughter was born in Feb 2015.  After that it was more participation level with the occasional stronger week on a game I especially liked.  I think when 2012 is added in the list I will be bumped from the top spot by more than one competitor.  My rank is mostly based on that I am a pretty good game player overall with a nice long stretch of participation.

2012 will be interesting because it used contest blocks. So guillavoie and Tom really only competed for a section or two. 2011 is where they will run away with it.

Today's running thoughts:
------------------------------------
I think Contra in 2012 is an action-platformer.  Gyruss is also in the block so that must of been the shooter.
------------------------------------
Yeah, Tom brought this up earlier, but he and guillavoie left a lot of points off the table because of the block format
------------------------------------
And so far I have a whopping 89 scores in for Krunch.  But no wins (though he does have one in later in 2012).  I now sort of feel bad I stole his Palamedes win with my trickery
------------------------------------
TRACK & FIELD RESULTS
1st: 112,440 – dev(2) +10 points
Tournament participant: 1,130,390 - guillavoie

The easiest points guillavoie never got
------------------------------------
Sorry, I have to keep teasing Krunch
Finally got to your sole win, over 100 posted scores in.  Looks like you beat up on just Andy haha

SPELUNKER RESULTS
1st: 277,220 – Krunch +10 points
2nd: 18,000 – Megamanfan +8 points

------------------------------------
Ok, now I have to tease Andy.  In the final block he placed 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 5th for his best stretch of his career.  He had 4, 5, 2, 1, 0, and 4 competitors and won the block.  Probably why that format was retired

This has to be the last time I'm on top of this list.

No surprise that I have dominated in puzzle games up to this point.

lol, I just  have a little over million points on him.

The 2012 format was sort of a flop, not that it wasn't logical, but after the 3rd-4th block it was really disappointing. The point was that a lot of players were complaining about the lenght of a season, in the sense that many joined the contest in the middle of the season and  they just couldn't catch up with top ranks. So Bimmy and I thought about a system where you could clinch tournament spot in six phases, so the leaderboard would reset every 6 weeks. But, I think it was a bit misunderstood, and many just didn't care in the last blocks.... knowing this would turn like this, we would have just ignore complaints and go on with our traditionnal format + the tournament that was also a new thing from 2012.

Now that we compile stats, that year is very problematic cause it actually hurts the stats of the most dominants players. Tom only got points for winning first block, and he couldn't placed in the 30 remaining contests.

2011 had 15 action-platformers, and 1 sports title

Someone got an easy genre win
