Fried my AVS wall wart, any suggestions? Do not use the AVS USB charger to charge your iPhones

So I used my AVS wall wart to charge my iPhone 7.  After about 10 minutes I heard a pop and sure enough it was fried.  So note to others, do not use the AVS USB charger to charge your iPhones.  Where can I buy a replacement?  Can I use other devices to power the AVS properly?

TIA

I use an External USB battery pack to power my AVS. So far so good!

EDIT: To power my AVS, not charge, sorry!

You mean "power" the AVS?  It doesn't charge to my knowledge.

I hadn't previously, but in order to keep the system close to me to avoid any unfortunate accidents with the USB socket and my often overexuberant son, I did exactly this the last time I broke out the system.  I noticed that it ate through the entirety of the 10K mAh I keep in the living room as an emergency controller charger in the 2-3 hours it took me to work all the way through Rampage.  I honestly don't know if that's good or bad, but it definitely makes the AVS a lot more power hungry than any of the other devices I sometimes charge on that battery.

Well shoot, guess I should get one of these USB chargers. Is it safe for the AVS to use any USB charger or USB wall wart?  I have some other old phone ones laying around. I wanna make sure I don't fry the AVS itself. Thanks in advance for any help here.

Yeah, from what I have read online it seems you can use almost anything to power the AVS without harm.  Would be nice to verify that but for now I'll just use whatever works to power it.

I use my Samsung TV's USB port to power the AVS, so that it turns on automatically when the TV is on. I have never had any issues.

Not sure if it's a yankee or euro term, but I've never heard of the term "wall wart" 'till now. lol

Also, doesn't the iPhone7 use it's own proprietary port? I don't even think it's USB/C... Unlike Android phones, if you stick anything but it's intended charger in it, it could fry or at least cause some form of damage.

Not sure but I will not be charging it with anything but the proper charger going forward.  I just wanna play my AVS without harming it but I no longer have the original wall wart that came with it.

lol There's that word again. "Wall wart". Sorry, but it makes me giggle.

I just looked it up, iPhone uses what's called a "Lightning port" which is their own style port. It looks so dang similar to the other ports, I can see how easy it is to make a mistake, especially since everything else uses non-proprietary universal ports. I'm sure there's converters out there to allow you to use other cables in the future, so that might be something to look into.

Either that, or go with Andriod.

Agreed.  Its some cheap ass Chinese product anyways.  I do not want to fry the AVS, does anyone have any thoughts on how to not let that happen?

There's nothing special about the AVS wall wart. It's functionally identical to a basic iPhone charger as it outputs 5v at 1000mA. What likely happened is that a capacitor blew when your phone tried to draw a larger current than the AVS. These things are made pretty cheaply, so the quality isn't always there.

You'll be fine using any old usb style wall wart that can supply the same current (which is just about all of them). Hell, one of those white apple adapters would probably be better built.

The pack I use is this:  myCharge - Adventure Max 10,050 mAg Portable Charger. I get several hours of gameplay throughout the week and I don't even check the battery. Whenever I plug the battery pack to charge it is only one light down out of 4. I am not a very knowledgable with how fast the battery pack may lose its charge and all, but this one seems to work just fine. We use this battery pack when we go to the beach, go on the road etc. I don't do any long gameplay runs, perhaps 3 hours at a time at most?

This is what I was using.  I'd have sworn it had a full charge on it, but I honestly didn't check before I plugged it up.  Also didn't keep a strict eye on the clock either, so it could have gone a bit past 3 hours on Rampage.  Thinking about it, I did do a run through Mega Man 2 and some other random gameplay before trudging through Rampage (seriously, the latter 50% of that game is a slogfest--I had to keep reminding myself that I wanted to beat it).  And, my battery is a bit past 3 years old at this point, so...lots of contributing factors.  I'd love to know what the true draw on the AVS is so I/we can semi-accurately predict how long such a device will (is supposed to) last versus just hoping I'm not toward the end of a game I can't save in when the charge light starts blinking to let me know it's about to conk out.  Even with my aforementioned senior moments, the AVS does seem hungrier than the other things I plug into that battery, maybe just not as hungry as I'd believed.

I actually think I did the same thing when I got my AVS, funnily enough. I've used basically any regular USB to wall adapter since then without issue. I don't know much about those adapters though, tbh.

The other end is USB A, just like the ubiquitous microUSB cables most phones use, the newer USB-C that some newer phones use, the older miniUSB that older phones often used, the older 30-pin iPod dock connector that older iPhones used, etc.

Ichinisan and I routinely use a USB-C to Lightning cable on our Apple devices.

Also, expect to notice “wall wart” a lot more now because it’s been prolific for a LONG time, long before cords were typically detachable from the brick.

Everyone that comes into my store asks for "USB wall adapter".

The term isn't prolific, it's esoteric:

The term has nothing to do with USB in particular:

No, I didn't edit that into Wikipedia. Yes, I immediately recognized that as an NES AC Adapter even before reading the caption.

Alright, I'll admit that we aren't talking about USB, HOWEVER while we're derailing here:

It might be prolific in your neck of the woods, but it's not here mang. Google must either have regional results, or it's filtering what you'd most likely searched for in the past.

Pretty esoteric.
