Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  Bimmy-san here and I bow in honor as I present to you the game of the week: Kung Fu.  Get ready for loads of excitement as you karate chop your way through five levels of judo masters to rescue your girlfriend, Sylvia, from the nefarious Mr. X.  Along the way you will encounter masters of the Black Belt and knife throwers and…midgets?  Moths?  Cobras?  Dragons??  What the hell kind of dojo is this?  Mr. X isn’t screwing around here, no sir.  He is serious about making your 8-bit pixilated babe HIS girlfriend!  But to get to him, you’ll have to fight through some of his toughest thugs, from an Australian, boomerang-toting henchman to a giant black guy who makes Michael Clarke Duncan look like a midget and then all the way to the mysterious magician who can make his head grow back if you kick it off.  Damn!  Now that’s some serious ninja magic!  Once you have defeated all of them, you will face off against your nemesis Mr. X, so crane-kick that bastard in the face and reclaim the sweet, sweet Sylvia.  And you did it all for the glory of love…wow, in the end, Kung Fu is nothing but a love story.  Kind of brings a tear to your eye, doesn’t it?  What, no I’m not getting all soft and emotional on you guys.  It’s just such a heartwarming and beautiful story and all and…Okay, enough of all that sappy crap, here are the rules:
 
 

• Play on Mode A
• Play Until Game Over
• Multiple loops are allowed
• If you roll the score, make sure to take a picture before the roll and right after the roll.  Do this for each roll of the score. If you roll the score, you need to pause the game immediately after losing your last life and take your last picture then, so we can see which loop you are on.
• Highest score wins
• Participation: 100,000
• GENRE: Beat ‘Em Up

 
 
The contest ends Sunday, 3/6/16 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Never played it, but I'm playing and drinking all night until I get participation

The participation score may look daunting, but once people start to figure out where to get the points, it should be very easy to attain.

You can score 100k by the end of the second floor

Ugh, 700k is out of reach, I reckon, at least for this week. Maybe next year...

Your 107,430 score is fine. If people miss taking their picture when they die, they can still get it if they start a new game since the score will be in the "Top Score" spot. I would advise people who roll the score to take pictures when they are close to death so we can verify the score was rolled in the event you end up taking your final picture on the game demo screen or if you start a new game.

Sweet, I'll be getting in on this one

I feel like I could get the participation score if I could figure out how to beat that "one hit and you're dead" black guy at the end of stage 3. No matter what I do, he shoots out his leg, and I'm dead.

EDIT: Never mind. I figured him out and made it to the fourth screen. I still only scored 85,000. Not quite enough.



 

The one I hate is that freaking wizard or whatever he is at the end of the 4th level. Ugh. 

Higher score updated above! Having a blast with this one. Really refreshing after a week of Tetris.

I got killed on the wizard on my last run and scored 91,000. I'm getting there. Today is pretty much my first time playing this.

Thanks. Today is more or less my first time playing "Kung Fu" so I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I mean, I must have played it before at some point, but hardly at all. It's one of those games that I ignored.  But it turns out to be fun and somewhat challenging. I may have to get the cart.
