It's solid state so I don't see why it would hurt to leave it running. The power draw at the outlet is minimal but I would suggest turning off the display. I left my Atari runing for two weeks while i attended classes so I could finish Princess rescue (homebrew port of Super Mario). I've run SNES and NES and Genesis for at least one week in the past with various games on pause.

I would never recommend doing this for any modern / disc based gaming system however, as moving parts such as disc drives or cooling fans will eventually wear out. Most modern systems have an adjustable hutdown timer. I have my Wii-U and PS3 set for two hours.

Wasn't there a Japanese guy that was so afraid to lose his save data on a certain Super Famicom game that he left his SFC on since he got the game back in the day?

Yes, right. His SFC is now running since 20 years to keep his data of Umihara Kawase:

That is one serious case of OCD IMO.

Unless the USB port on the TV is powering the AVS.

Or you have it plugged into the PC for scoreboard, and it goes into sleep mode (or decides it wants to perform an auto-update restart, as is the case with Win10).

When playing the NA contest this past year, I left my demo unit on a week at a time. The only time it wasn't on from July-November was when I switched games. I have had no real issues.

This is why everyone should have me beta test. I'm mean.

-------------------------

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at the Let's Play Gaming Expo last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Oh, my WTB thread is very popular. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, Richard craniums - they all adore it. They think it's a righteous thread.
I'd also like to add that I've got my father's gun and a *scorching* price guide for aftermarket Nintendo games.
Between Dragon Warriors and nothing... I'll take Dragon Warriors - for any of my FT/FS/FO items.

Yeah it's not like it's gonna overheat or something. Except for the bug in the firmware that corrupts itself, soft-bricking the console after leaving it on continuously for 65536 hours!

Thnk of it as the ultimate kill screen...

Maybe he had a USP or rechargeable 9-12V battery bank connected.
