I received my preorder of, Zelda Breath of the Wild Master edition, today and was super excited. When I opened the shipping box, I noticed that the seal was lifted on the game and some of the paint on the box is gone where the seal is. I'm kind of at a loss. Not sure what to do here. I sent an email to GameStop explaining the situation.

I planned on keeping this game sealed for my Zelda collection.

Anyone experience this with a game they preordered from GameStop?

Return it, buy another.

Millions of customers, bound to be hundreds, maybe even thousands of screwed up orders.

Don't think you can buy another at the retail cost. Looking at $300 + on eBay and I don't think they are releasing more Master Edition copies. I know it's wishful thinking but I wonder if GameStop keeps some copies on reserve for customers who raise complaints on limited edition games like this.

Gamestop doesn't deal in collectibles, they've sold a product that is new and unplayed but that sale doesn't come with any guarantees about the condition of a seal or anything like that.

At worst you buy one at current market prices, and sell yours at current market prices, and the difference plus selling fees is what you're left paying to get the item in the condition that you desire.

Mine came with a crushed corner from bestbuy. I went on ebay looking for a replacement and noticed alot of these arrived damaged to buyers. Creases on top, dented corners, paint scratched off. I was quite surprised and decided just to keep mine and deal. Im sorry to hear about your situation, id be pretty upset if it came unsealed. I reshaped my corner as best i could and got a very fine paintbrush to touch up the paint cracks and it looks ok now i guess. Its a struggle man

Yeah, I was looking on ebay and it seems like a lot of these are damaged.

@bootload, not sure. I was trying to figure that out myself but I don't think there is any information about this yet.

At least you've received yours...I preordered from Gamestop and have been on the phone waiting an hour daily trying to figure out when it's going to ship. Yesterday I finally got someone who checked the order, put me on hold for 5 minutes, then came back to tell me something wrong was holding up the order this whole time. Apparently, it is still being sent, but I'm pretty paranoid about its very existence.

I hate how GameStop opens their games... To me at least, the game isn't "new" if you break the seal (or remove the shrink wrap, etc).

Didn't realize it's the master collection! If it were a standard copy I'd understand just being able to drop it off and pick us another.

I'd just call customer support and raise hell, politely at first of course until you either get a full refund or another copy.

GameStop in fact DOES deal in collectibles what with every store selling statues marked as collectible. They should know how collectors like their stuff.

If I paid $300 for something that's $60 for the standard item I'd expect it to be HIGHLY premium. Thats a 5x premium for a collectors item in subpar condition.

The Master Edition was only $129.99 at retail, it is the secondary market that commands $300.  There would be no reason to return when you could just flip it on eBay and make substantial profit in the worst case.

I'm sure he'd much rather switch it for another copy, but I don't think there will be any extras for them to give.

Man I'd be so, so pissed. Hope it works out for you. At the very worst you can sell it at a whopping profit.

Ah ok, I had no idea what the pricing was.

If it's going for that much on eBay then yeah, I'd just sell it and put some more money on top if I *really* wanted an unopened copy, or just pocket the profit and walk away if it wasn't too important to me.

Mine came damaged too. Not so noticeable unless your a collector and your looking for damage. Still, I noticed it and it ticked me off.

Sorry to hear that. I'd be very disappointed. Dealing with any cardboard box games at retailers is horrible. Good luck finding any Wii U game + amiibo bundle that isn't damaged. I swear they kick these things around.

This is far from the first time I've heard of Gamestop opening "new" items prior to sale. It's what they do as a standard practice. I don't know why, it doesn't make sense, but they do it. I know they are the only source for many people, but if we could all "vote with our wallets" or whatever by not using them maybe they would realize they should knock this shit off.

The key words are "from Gamestop"    I don't know how they stay in business; they've been a joke to the gaming community for years.

Just received mine in the mail today from Gamestop - yes, there is a little damage to a couple corners, but I'm just honestly glad it finally made it

last time we did that they figured it'd be a good idea to buy up our precious carts. Something tells me that won't do it

You either stop buying from them or you just deal with their bullshit, that's how this works.  Worst case just pawn it off on ebay and call it a day.

Of course, boycotts only work if everybody does them.

What pegboy said.

Any special edition I would order from in store. That way if it looks messed up when they try to give it to you, point it out and they may have a different one to give you.

Yup. I would advise the former. Don't give them any business.
