I don't think the mods even expected everyone to be rolling the score, hence no rules about what to do when that happens.

This game used to trip me up really bad, but honestly discovering the thing about keeping the score multiplier up, practically refills your reserve tank on every stage. Keeping the multiplier up helped me focus and not just blast at everything wildly.

The only real problematic stages are the later ones that start you off with low fuel. Rally 42 in particular is a huge pain in the ass and what I consider the make or break stage in the game. I'm still trying to learn it in the hopes of getting a top three score.

We totally overlooked this.

What's even more stupid is that the score rolls but the game can't keep the million mark for the high-score screen (incredibly stupid).

I trust the scores posted, but from now on, please, for those that will roll the score, try to take a picture of your final score 'in' the game so we can see on which track you ended your run. So, we need a picture of the score rolled (000,xxx with the stage at the top right), and a picture of the final score with the stage on the top right.

For those who doesn't roll the score the high-score screen is still good.

Agreed.  That's what I did with my last score update because I didn't feel comfortable just posting pictures of the score being rolled and the high score screen because it would be too easy to cheat.

Indeed, that is the point, thank you for getting it. But I understand why everybody went with what the rules said and took their final score picture at the high-score screen.

Just so it is clear, all scores posted at this point are valid.

The most difficult thing about this game really is forcing yourself to play it. It's the opposite of addictive.

Usually the only levels where you even have to try are the ones that don't refill your main tank much at the beginning. These levels can be a pain, but if you can get past them, you can ease through a few more levels until you have to make an effort again.

I'd say the most difficult thing is dealing with hand pain.  I made it to the 7th level and had to quit.  Might have to try the NES Advantage on this one.

Having to keep holding up is hard on the thumb, but I'm used to it, I guess.

Just so everyone knows, you only have to hold up to accelerate. Once you top out at 212, the car will maintain its speed unless you take a sharp turn.

Those are some nice scores so far. Good job everyone.
I will try to put a score up by Sunday. Week has been really busy and stressful, so no time for videogames so far.
And I have plans for Saturday, so I will only have Sunday to play, and only if my Saturday plans don't extend into Sunday.

updated score

also i'm pretty sure i noticed that if you finish a race with multiplier of say 9x and a score of 155,000 when you get the bonus it only rounds it up to the nearest 10,000 so in this case it would give you 160,000 instead of 164,000 but if you had 10x it would give you the 165,000

i think i saw this happen several times anyone else notice?

Yes. You get a few extra hundred for some reason.

9,999 + 9x multiplier = 10,000 OUCH!

Yup, it can be brutal.

Nice.

If someone has already rolled the score twice then I predict that skinny's score will be 2,200,000 or higher. He's going to grind this until he's grabbed every point that is humanly possible.

Fuck, I didn't get a shot in time.  You don't have much time to pause (especially on 49 where you're on no gas the entire stage) and it sent me to the scores screen instead.  If the mods don't want to count it then well there is nothing I can do

Level 49 again

For some reason I can't do rally 42. I just made it there with two credits left and failed again. It's like you need to have the whole thing memorized and know exactly when and where to turn to dodge the blue cars, mines, etc. because there is almost zero room for error. It's so frustrating. This one level makes me wonder how Brock managed to make it to rally 49 on his first time ever playing the game.

Juuuuuuust missed the roll over.
This most likely will not get me into the top 8, but it might have to do for this week unless I get more time.

Whooooo!!! idk mbd putting the pressure on me!!

the 2 mill mark is pretty good but, yes, The Grinder is up right now seeing how much I can grind out of this thing. Even though it's a turd it suits my style in the contest.

Just for kicks, I played around on the original arcade version of Road Blasters, and DAMN! What a difference. It's really unforgiving and brutal. I cruised through most of the NES version with my multiplier sitting at x10. On the arcade version, I couldn't keep it above 2 or 3. The aiming has a larger spread and it's harder to hit the orange cars. NES you can just shoot left, right, and forward.

I beat the game, but I still fell around 250k short of Brock and tables. I'm not accurate enough with my shots.

EDIT:

I took a picture of my score right at the end of level 50, but unfortunately I didn't notice until later that it came out too blurry for the score to be readable. I should have been more careful. But I still got a picture of the winning screen to show that I beat the game.

Rally 49 is slightly difficult because you have to collect almost every fuel orb or you'll fail. The last level is not too bad.

How many people in this contest are going to beat the Twin Galaxies record? Lulz.

(Although this is the only Twin Galaxies score that I can find for the game.)

Dunno, I don't recall where I used up my credits on the first run, just that they were all at some point between 31-49.  I know you got in my head for my 2nd run (3rd if you count the one where I beat it), and I DID lose a credit on 42 after choking often and repeatedly

49 is the one where I stumble.  No margin for error.  In fact the only error I recall on my final run is not shooting one of the yellow cars because I think I nitro'd past it, so it must of been holding a required gas powerup

Also here's my super obvious tips, mostly because I want you all to keep playing this while I practice the last three games:

- Don't crash after getting the uzi
- Don't crash after getting the uzi
- Don't crash after getting the uzi

When I beat the game, rally 49 was where I finally lost a credit, but then I beat it on my next credit. You have to be careful to collect every orb. I barely squeaked by.

I had to study a Youtube playthrough to memorize the the positioning of the blue cars and mines to get past rally 42. IMO, it's the hardest level in the game, or it's tied with rally 49.

Rallys 43 through 48 are easy, so at least they give you a breather before the game gets tough again.
