Ha-ha, funny, but in order to live up to me he has to post every game that he plays, not just select ones.

Question:
Can we use an emulator for your contest, or must we play on actual hardware? If so, I suppose we are on the honor system.

edit:  OK i see the last part of your post where it says "roms are allow".  Gotcha.

Yup. ROMs are allowed, but NO save states, or anything else that would make the experience and challenge easier than on the real hardware.

LOL, I would have to post every game.  I liked her style, so I decided to use it as my own.  Hope you don't mind, Ms. Clawful!  :-)

Anyway, I decided to give it a rest for the remainder of the day, after my 6th attempt:

Gonna try to top my scores this week and practice the heck out of this game.  See you all on the circuit tomorrow!   I would love to get an actual cart of this one.

im not a fan on expert with rico on. its way to hard, dont think we'll be in the running on this one. would have been alot more fun at a lesser defficulty or at least with no ricochet. i cant even get off the first level. so we decided to take a run at default settings and had a blast much more fun..

I haven't given it a shot yet, but I beat the default difficulty last year with ricochet bullets on, that was a bitch.

Gun-Nac
09/06/2008
beat it with 85 deaths / 15 continues used, high score 1.967.750 (stage 5), final score 1.348.520 [Game Level-2 Intermediate, Ricochet of bullets, Speed has priority]

Have never been able, or actually didn't give it my full effort, to beat advanced or expert. I remember one year I tried advanced mode, failed to beat it and gave up, but that was then. What's going to be hard for me if when I try tackling expert with ricochet is that I'm also going to be trying to record it on webcam, which means I have to have my laptop in the way, that is if I want a better movie than I had when I tried for Bubble Bobble and Wrecking Crew. I've played this game quite a bit, I think I could probably get at last halfway, but then, I really don't know how much worst expert is to intermediate since I've never given this difficulty a whirl at all. If I feel up to it I'll try a game or so later.

^ Yep this game is great at a normal level, but a cakewalk IMO. A score run at lower levels would just really eat a lot of time and not really get anywhere, IMO. Glad you're having fun just playing it for fun's sake though

I heard that Gun Nac is a parody of Zanac. Is this true?

well, basically all alot of us are doing now is wasting alot of time playing level 1 over and over, im sure there people playing just like me who cant get past the first level. its just way to hard, would probablly be more fun with rico off. either way im suggesting that all future contests be played on defauls settings or al least something a little closer to default. remember these are fun little weekly contests to kinda keep us busy for the week.

Nah, I like the idea of contests being played at the most grueling difficulty possible.

For some games that's the only way to separate the men from the boys.

I tried this game for the first time last night.  I did play Zanac a lot when I was younger, and I can definitely see some huge similarites.  The default settings were pretty tolerable, but playing on level 4 expert with ricochet bullets was a nightmare.  I'll give it another shot later.

I gave it a brief testing (2 quick tries), didn't even make it to the first stage boss, this level of difficulty is far harder than the default with ricochet to the point of unplayable madness for me, not even going to try at it again, don't think I'd get anywhere and don't need that level of tension and stress at the moment either, doesn't help that I'm playing on a small screen too, kept losing track of my ship. As I said some posts up, the game was hard enough on intermediate with ricochet, but I figured I'd give this one at least an attempt, and I'm not up for it afterall, seems even harder than Space Megaforce was at the craziest difficulties.

The Richochet's are really annoying. Im all for the hardest level but not for Richochet's
But everyone has to play that way so its still fair

I pulled an all-nighter and was able to get midway to level 3 on this mode -- I just built up the Bolt bomb as much as possible and used it a lot. The water bombs also are very useful. Lots of practice on this one. I love the ricochets and the expert mode. Provides a huge challenge.

I gave it 3 more attempts a little while ago, couldn't even beat that silly rabbit at the end of the first stage, didn't even bother to log my score, took the game out before it started to get on my bad side. I'm totally outclassed on this difficult, can't even find my ship half the time when the screen is cluttered with enemies, shots and debris, its just too much to handle, don't have that good of eye-hand coordination. Its this level of craziness that makes me hate Zanac, have to have eyes of a hawk and reflexes of a cockroach to be able to cope with this level of intensity. No, I'll stick with playing Gun-Nac on intermediate, just the right amount of challenge without taking away from the fun. Maybe I'm just not in the mood for it.
