You know since I already did tutorials for all the other mods for a Sega Genesis model 1. I might as well finish doing the LED and Region mod.
Requirements:
-Drill
-Cross head screw driver
-5mm LED (remember to pick the color & brightness of your choice)
-Electrical tape, hot glue or even regular glue (Your choice of the 3)
Using your screw driver to open up your Sega Genesis from below. Lift the top shell of the system carefully. You won't be able to fully remove the top because the legs of the LED are folded around on the system. So just simply straighten the legs and carefully pull them out from it's connection like the image below.
These next 2 lines are from
Lastcallhall, who pretty much says it best.
"
You can see it's sealed underneath the plastic of the console. What we're going to have to do is drill it out. I started by cutting the leads and using a 1/16" drill bit, carefully drilled inbetween the cut leads spacing to expose the LED underneath. Don't worry if you break the LED - we're replacing it anyway. If the LED doesn't come out using the 1/16" bit, keep going up in size until you get a size that works."
"Once the LED is out of the system, use your drill to widen the LED hole on the Genesis case itself. I used a 5/32" bit and went up in size from there, making sure the LED was snug."
Alrighty, you should have a nice little hole like this.
Ok the next part is pretty simple. With your new LED, place the
longer leg to the
red cable and
smaller leg to the white cable.
Here's a nice little diagram.
If you did it right, it should light up with no problem after turning your system on.
Now simply attach the LED back to the little hole you drilled on the top shell of your Sega Genesis using electrical tape or hot glue,
I personally used electrical tape just in case I feel like replacing the LED with another color. Screw your system back close with the screws you removed and done!
