Hey everyone.  Here we are, the last contest of 2011 and it's going to be NARC.  Here are the rules:

  • 1 player only
  • Play until Game Over
  • No point racking
  • Take the picture on the High Scores screen.  Be ready to take the picture after you enter the last letter of your initials because the High Score screen doesn't stay up for long.
  • Participation: 50,000

The contest ends Sunday, 12/18/11 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Good luck everyone and have fun!

For anyone who has participated in the weekly contests or participates in future contests, contact Benihana for your Contest Participant Icon.

Again, this is the last contest for 2011.  A big thanks goes out to everyone who participated this year, our biggest year for participation thus far.

Now you're talking my language, Bimmy.

My score is 913,600, but knowing the nature of these contests, this will probably be bested by someone else who got 2,500,000. If it helps my boasting points, this was my third attempt, as the first two times, my NES acted up, as it hardly holds the game pins.

A tip for those who missed your chance to capture your highscore:  Just play the game and get a game over, it will always take you to the High Score table.

PS: This game makes me hate dogs.

My score is currently 1,775,250.  Up from 913,600.

Wow, nice score! I guess I should ask you how you managed that I just played for the first time ever and got wrecked. Gotta figure this one out...

Sure, since Bea was kind enough to share how she got her scores in GnG, I will tell.

Don't shoot the drug lords, bust them by standing near them. You get 5,000 per head, and you can average about 20 per level for the first few levels. If you shoot them, you get 100 per head, and you'll be lucky if they drop something. They might drop money, which is 1,000 per, or a sack of narcotics, which is 2,000 per.

The dogs can be busted too, but they're too difficult, so you might as well shoot them. The Addict (third level bad guy), "Kinky Pinky", and the commando guys at stage 5 cannot be busted. Stage 6 introduces Mafia like gunmen who can also be busted. Unsurprisingly, the ones you can't bust are the ones who are better off being killed by your rocket launcher, as they're too strong and they're still coming at you when you shoot them.  You will see some guys at level 4 or 5 that look like scientists with afros who throw vials of explosives, they can't be busted.  Shoot them instead.

Thanks for the tips. I'll just focus on participation and go from there

EDIT: I had to leave town unexpectedly, so there's no way I'm going to be able to play this again to even get participation. Oh well.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

I agree, not the best game in the world, but was a little fun to play. Here is my participation score for now.

Took this game down for the first time ever on Tuesday night.  Not too difficult once you get the hang of it.  Not the greatest game in the world, but still a lot of fun to play.

Does the game loop? I've only made it as far as level 6.

Nope.  After you beat Mr. Big, you go to one more level of his headquarters that is nothing but gold bars you can collect.  Once you finish the level, it totals up your bonuses, gives you a congratulations screen, and then allows you to enter your initials for your score.

Alright. While the game is pretty crude and dated, it's a really smooth port, especially for 1989. I'mma see if I can get farther this time, now that I know that I can't bust the addicts, the clowns, the commandos, and the scientists. And those fucking Dogs!

Edit:  Updated my score.  Is Mr. Big immune to rockets?  Or you have to shoot his glasses first, or what?  I killed him, and ran out of ammo.

Mr. Big is immune to rockets except his eyes. To beat him, first you have to destroy his sunglasses. When the level starts, immeditaely move up to the top of the screen so his tongues can't hurt you. You have to jump and fire a rocket at his sunglasses, but the jump has to be timed just right. It takes one rocket to destroy them. After you destroy his sunglasses, you have to shoot another rocket at his eyes. Again, time a jump just right to hit his eyes. Once you hit his eyes, he turns into a skull. To defeat the skull, you have to destroy each segment of his spine, starting with the top one. For the spine, you can just use the machine gun. Again, you have to time your shots just right to destroy a segment of his spine, but destroying his spine is far easier than shooting rockets at his eyes.

Alright, didn't know there was a trick. If I go play this again, I'll know what to do. I did beat the game, though.

Thanks!

This year was definitely not a walk in the park. A lot of serious competition from some players.
Especially, the Mog forced me to put unreasonable efforts to match him on almost every contests. That was fun, but sort of exhausting per moment. I guess I'll have to calm down a bit on this for next year. I'll try to put more efforts to help Bimmy with the elaboration of contests and rules. This would make me helpful while taking a break of competition.

Also, we probably need to change the formula for next year, and I'll try to put my brain on it. All suggestions all welcomed, so please, let's work all together to bring some freshness in the air for the upcoming years.

Thanks for running the contest, you did an awesome job keeping it going.

I didn't participate as much as I could've but enjoyed both the times that I did as well as times I didn't and just checked in once in a while seeing the scores rack up.
