Hah!  Considering that the Twin Galaxies high score is over 8 million, and they have multiple >1MM point scores, this might be a genuine concern...

Maybe the winner is the first one to post 999,999?

Or are the phases numbered indefinitely?  Maybe highest phase reached?

I haven't played this game in a long time, so I have no recollection of the scoring mechanism.

Since we're not going to deal with the hassle of video submissions, I would propose that the first person to post 999,999 (or the closest to it) will be declared the winner, if anybody actually does that well.

Basically, we should all agree that we will not acknowledge scoring rollovers, and in the event of a tie, the first person to have posted the highest score wins.

Nes King, Since I know you're a solid gamer I'm guessing the rule I'm suggesting won't be necessary.  But it is probably best to be prepared.

Dain plays his NES games on a TV on the floor? I have to say I'm kinda disapointed! C'mon man, the best of us at LEAST needs a TV stand and a comfy chair!

So I've found something that can be abused in this game...

It's possible to milk the ice monsters for 500 points a pop, starting in Phase 9. I don't know how many would be considered "abuse", but it's possible to kill quite a few when you only have one enemy left, with the only difficulty being occasionally dodging a green fireball. I guess it would be too boring to get a really high score this way, but thought it was worth pointing out.

Yeah, it's nowhere near as lucrative as milking certain levels in Wrecking Crew...

Bah!

This is how I played back in the day (on the floor), so it's actually how I prefer to play now. Granted, it does start to hurt my aging back a bit. We are planning on adding some furniture to the game room soon because the wife wants chairs to sit in while playing. We couldn't until recently because there was no room on the floor!

Does this mean we need to plop a TV on the ground outside at the campout for you to play on? haha

Really? I died around that score the couple of times I played yesterday, but that was because I was going out of my way to try and maximize combos. It seems impractical to get more than a 3-hit combo, and if you fail to get the subsequent coins for the kills then you've basically wasted the effort.

I do think the way momentum is handled takes some getting used to, though. It's not your usual "Mario physics"

How come nes_king's copy shows which phase he is in?
Mine does too, and I'm curious why everyone's doesn't. Different revision?

I would had voted for a phase record instead of a first to get 999,999 points, but since I'm late on the rules debate I guess we're going to stick on the 999,999 maximum score.
I guess we MUST play with only one player, right?

Guil - I don't think there would be any advantage playing with 2 players, but we're just using "defaults" (1 player, game A).

I really don't think there is a legitimate risk of a bunch of people breaking a million. It's doable, but would take a few hours, I think. It would get REALLY boring.

nes_king/AllYourBase - They're taking pictures of the demo screen. I guess it's possible that different revisions of the game have different "attract modes"...
