Ok so as no one on here knows my favorite game of all time has to be steambot chronicles it is a under rated gem on the ps2 and if anyone ever gets the chance to play it I would recommend it. The basic gist is your a kid with amnesia who wakes up on a beach and you get to fight in GIANT ROBOTS, that are steam powered if I way add. It is a RPG in a early 1900s setting and has a massive world, great story, and is just fun to play. But after the first one flopped Irem released a teaser for the second one but after a earth quake they canceled the second game. Now for the main point can we get a kick start on the second one or try to contact irem because to anyone who has played this master piece of a game we need more in this world.

I've never played the game, but I had a feeling it was a hidden gem. Unfortunately, I can't discuss the game, but any excuse to talk PS2 is an excellent one.

By the way, wasn't there a PSP sequel/side-story? If so, how was that?

Yes there was, but it was not a true sequel it was more of just a fighting game. It's sour when you take a great game a strip it down to nothing more then a fighting game

I don't want to see you get in trouble for bumping. I have to admit, though, it might be hard finding PS2 RPG fans in a forum where Battletoads and Zelda II are the norm. I've had the same problem -- I'm an enthusiast of the Sixth Generation, but I haven't been able to find an active community focused on that era. Are there any other PS2 games, RPG or otherwise, that you consider as good as Steambot?

By the way, I appreciate the info on the PSP game. It's good to know it's not essential to the Steambot Chronicles experience.

As good? No. Good? Metal gear, Oni, and juiced come to mind. Not RPGs but good games.

We should start a sub forum of ps2 games

Well, there are some good, enthusiastic people over in the PlayStationCollecting section, but the boards aren't as active as here.

I have fond memories of Metal Gear Solid 2, even if it was the weaker of the two PS2 installments. Even so, it's packed with Kojima's signature easter eggs. In the end, I still consider it a fun game to revisit.

I've only played a little of Oni. Most memorably, it taught me that the DualShock 2 had L3 and R3 buttons. (It was my first PlayStation console.)

I haven't played it at all, but I'll check it out.
I actually have a stack of PS2 games I've been meaning to play.
I'm always looking for RPG's that I never played, thanks!

You're very ambitious, 1jss1. I don't mean to be cynical, but Steambot Chronicles will probably never expand beyond the existing games. Unless the franchise has a champion at Irem, there's probably little motivation to make a sequel. (I'm not even sure Irem is working on new games anymore.)

The industry changed a lot after the PS2 era, leaving a lot of franchises behind. Steambot Chronicles didn't get the worldwide sales Irem/Atlus were hoping for, so it's not a likely candidate for a revival. (After all, even huge franchises, like Suikoden, haven't found a place in the modern games industry.)

I've got an expansive PS2 RPG collection, and I've never played this game. Never even seen it being played. This is coming from someone who owns Okage Shadow King and Mana Khemia.

...Could very well be a hidden gem.

I bought this game when it came out because it looked like my type of game. Never did get around to playing it yet, but it's on my short list. (Along with Metal Saga)

And both are awesome games.

I remember looking at Steambot Chronicles at GS back in the day but ultimately going with something else instead. That and MS Saga.

The little I've played of both Steambot Chronicles and Metal Saga were very enjoyable. I'd definitely say they're hidden gems for the PS2. Both were published by Atlus too I believe.
