I listened to the soundtrack both sides several times now. What are the tracks at the beginning of Side B? Am I hearing Game Boy tunes? Never played the Gameboy Zeldas or Zelda 2 NES, but I recognised a chiptune version of the Smash Bros theme in there right before the N64 OOT tunes...
Something very magical about this record; can't stop listining to it. I may need to archive it and burn to CD, LOL...
Oh, and as a Pink Floyd fan, I'm loving the Triforce / DSOTM art motif.
All of those tracks are from zelda 2. The opening track on side B is the famicom disk system version of the opening song in zelda 2. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the disk system version for a change. I believe the ssb track you are referring to is the palace/temple theme which was remade on the Hyrule temple stage in melee. I can't wait for the Castlevania trilogy! That will be my favorite release I'm betting.
Ah, the Famicom Disk System samples were what threw me off. It sounded like NES tracks but there were notes with tonal properties unlike what a stock NES can generate. So I guessed Gameboy or something but it didn't seem right.
Never could get into Zelda II but LTTP and OOT I've played. The first sequel is often the oddball in a series, whereas the third returns to it's roots with perfection: Super Mario Bros 2, Zelda II, Castlevania II, followed by Super Mario Bros 3, LOZ:LTTP, Castlevania III...
IMO CVIII (J) has some of the most awesome soundtrack ever produced on NES/Famicom, and I'd imagine there's enough in that one game to fill a whole record. MM3 is really good too; I hope he makes that one to complement MM2...
