Dead N64's? Do they just need to be cleaned, or what?

I noticed I get in more, and more N64 systems that just boot up to a gray screen. The games have been opened, cleaned, and work in other N64 systems I have. It's not the AV cords either. Are these systems truly no longer working, or is there a way to clean or fix them? They all power up, but to just a blank screen. Any ideas?

Always check and make sure the jumper pak is in place, for starters...

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

I've been testing them with a jumper pak I know works. Still get the gray screen of death.

I would just keep trying. Try a bunch of different games. If you work on it long enough you will probably get something. I dont think they make any parts for these?

You could probably sell the jumper paks, exp bay covers, and power supplies in individual lots for more than the systems are worth. I have had the same problem. I just sold off about 20 dead n64 systems

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

i was just gonna say that wrldstrman

in about 200 NES's i only got like 3 i couldn't fix because there was a problem with the power supply.. i got like 5 N64's out of 30 that were beyond repair but didn't have trouble with the power supply

so i guess its not just the controllers that break easily
