Oh, that's good to know. I guess I have it ingrained to not turn on a console without a game.

Yeah, I felt pretty weird doing it the first time after I'd heard it was an option, but it's definitely easier (and less "destructive," if you've changed a bunch of settings) than resetting the whole thing to factory defaults.

-------------------------
Need Stadium Events + Panesian titles, 6-in-1's, Menace Beach, Moon Ranger & Secret Scout to complete my licensed/unlicensed sets.

If you've got any of the above for sale, hit me up!

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I have set my AVS to autoboot, so no menu first. Both the a and the b buttons are set to turbo. Now I can't get into the menu anymore when I press the button combination. I think this has to do with the turbo mode. Is there a way to get to the menu with turbo mode on ?

Just turn it on without a cartridge in--it'll boot straight to the menu so that you can change whatever you need to.  There's no need to totally reset the system, just don't put a game in it to auto boot into and you're golden.
Yeah booting without a cart is always an option. The menu doesn't work 100% of the time. If the NES experiences a hard freeze or the cart fails to boot due to dirty pin connector, software error, bad cheat codes, or otherwise, the button combo to return to the menu will likely not work.

If the AVS CPU crashes, it will halt until power cycle or reset and most likely not send out a polling signal to the controller. Without a proper polling signal, the controller cannot send inputs back to the AVS. Workaround is to reset the game if it freezes, then you could return to the menu assuming the game actually boots. When in doubt, clean yer games and try again.

Is he in danger of running out of stock at the show? At least whatever units he brought with him to Portland?

Either way, this is terrific news!!!

EDIT: Speaking of PRGE, sucks I live in Louisiana and couldn't go. I need to drop by AtariAge and find out what's going on at Albert's booth. Yup, since 2012, I swing both ways!

I have seen a lot of talk about the USB port breaking on the AVS. I got one if the early shipments, so no reinforcement has been performed on my console. Is it absolutely necessary to open the console and apply some epoxy or some other means of reinforcement? I would rather not risk tampering with it, but if it's going to break sooner or later I might try to prevent it.

Any recommendations on how to proceed?

The USB port broke on my AVS pretty quick. Happened after about a week of light use. Mine actually broke off completely and was rattling around on the inside. Unfortunately, there was not much I could do to prevent it. I had only used the AVS five times total.

...Except you could have reinforced it like bunnyboy showed in pictures. Or used epoxy like many of us did. It just needs a little extra support to fight lifting when inserting the plug.

Going strong here and I have no fears that it will be damaged as I have removed and replugged many times moving between rooms, testing, and travelling.

There is also a part being made to reinforce the plug aswell. My USB port should be reinforced as it was a later order, but I have not checked.

Other members have used epoxy, but I remember there being a warning about the use of that by Bunny. Check earlier posts.

Yes he is in danger of running out of units at the show. As of close of business last night he only had 4units left. I am not going to say how many he brought, but it took a while for us to unload them all Friday night.

So, what has sold more, online or at the show? I am just curious.

Online I'm sure, judging by the fact order numbers at RetroUSB have increased by thousands since the AVS launched.

I am so happy for one he's selling these out...

I was an early adopter and the USB port broke before I even knew there was an issue.

There is apparently a piece being made for the USB connector. Either way, you should email their support about your issue.

Yes and going forward it seems there is no concern of ports breaking off.

Mine has the tiny screws on the USB port. I think that's a stop gap until he gets a new PCB revision with through hole part.

I was finally able to give the AVS a spin when some friends stopped over on Saturday and I was very happy with the results!
The visual quality and no lag control was great. I also used a couple of 8Bitdo Bluetooth controllers with it and really loved the setup.

Still blown away with seeing this type of quality from a NES on an HD display.
Here are a few snapshots I took off the screen. Keep in mind they are off the screen and taken with an iPod Touch..

I do look forward to having the cart connector replaced though because I did have a few games which just wouldn't start-up on the AVS, but worked on my NES launch system.

I couldn't help but notice the "border color" option mentioned in the AVS manual is nowhere to be found in firmware 1.10 or the newer betas. I posted a thread about it here:

I decorated mine too. Thanks for the inspiration. I had to wait a while for my AVS to finally arrive before I could apply them:

EDIT: What happened to the "add attachments" option?

Thanks for the heads up there. Just got myself one. The whole console looks naked without something there.
