I was watching a vid on youtube where this guys explains what the port is for under your nintendo. The service center had a computer which when the nintendo is plugged in to and then connects to the service center computer where it will work out where problems areon the board in seconds...

Has anyone seen one of these or used one and with technology today has anyone ported this software they used on this service center computers?

That's the first I'd heard of it. Do you have a link to the video?

Nope. It can't do that because to it'd have to overtake the NES data bus and CPU bus and then test it, which can't be done since it can't change the address bus inside the micro, or interject it because the pins aren't there.

http://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.ph...

It CAN be used to relay the status after a test is done after a failure on some data lines, but other then that I don't see how it can be done. It's a good thought though.

I am guessing. It says 1992, might have been to just "up" the Nintendo quality or something for advertising....

Yea this guys a weirdo. It was quite comical when I watched this video for the first time. I couldn't wait to upload it so other people could laugh at his atrocious techniques.

I liked this video for sure, some parts where hard to watch when it seemed like it was dragged out. Though I don't think i will do the fishing wire technique. Although it still was cool. Thank You for posting it up Penguin.

I don't think he made it up, I thought I remember seeing something matching that description that a collector had. Maybe someone can find it so I can be reassured I'm not imagining it, heheh. I have no idea what it would do exactly. By "computer" I don't think he means a PC, but presumably an 'embedded' computer AKA microcontroller inside the device. But for all I know, it could be something as basic as just being a way to test the NES's power supply without taking the plastic apart.
